In Landman Season 1, Episode 3, Rebecca’s rattlesnake encounter throws her into the danger and recklessness of the oil-field world she is trying to navigate. Actor Kayla Wallace says Rebecca responds by learning her surroundings and adapting to do her job. It is an early step in her relationship with Tommy, not a single moment that turns her into his ally.
What happens in the snake scene?
In Season 1, Episode 3, “Hell Has a Front Yard,” M-Tex attorney Rebecca Falcone accompanies Tommy to the site of an oil-company plane crash. When she sees a rattlesnake, she freezes; Tommy kills it. What does the rattlesnake mean for Rebecca?
Wallace reads the encounter as Rebecca’s first close confrontation with the unfamiliar hazards of her new professional environment. In a ScreenRant report republished by Headtopics, Wallace says Rebecca is thrown into “the danger of this world” and its recklessness: “It’s the Wild West, and she gets thrown into it face to face with a snake.”
The point is not that Rebecca suddenly becomes fearless. Rather, she has to adjust to a world whose risks and relationships are unlike what she knows. Wallace says Rebecca takes in information and adapts to her surroundings so she can do her job properly. That makes the scene a compact image of her broader challenge: learning how this business works while keeping her professional purpose in view.

How does the scene fit Rebecca and Tommy’s relationship?
Rebecca initially keeps her guard up and questions whether she can trust the people around her. Wallace describes the pair as butting heads before “slowly learning that they could work together.” In her December 2, 2024 interview with Brayden Garcia for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Wallace says Rebecca adapts to her environment and later goes to bat for Tommy in Episode 4.
That later development gives the Episode 3 encounter context, but it does not mean the snake itself makes Rebecca Tommy’s ally. Wallace’s account presents cooperation as a gradual process: Rebecca learns the people and rules of the oil business, and she and Tommy begin to see how they might help each other.

Was the snake real during filming?
According to Wallace’s account reproduced in the ScreenRant report republished by Headtopics, the snake was real. She said plexiglass separated her from the animal and snake wranglers handled it, adding that the precautions meant she was not in danger. This is a reported production anecdote from Wallace, not an independently published production-safety record.
