Timothy McGee’s apparent “exit” is about a possible future plan for the character—not confirmation that actor Sean Murray is leaving NCIS. A report on the two-part Season 23 premiere interprets a story development as McGee signaling that he may eventually leave the agency. That is an in-story possibility, not an announcement about Murray’s casting or the show’s production.
What McGee’s apparent exit plan means
The phrase “effectively confirms” describes the reporting outlet’s interpretation of a Season 23 story beat. It does not refer to a direct statement from Sean Murray about his employment, and the available episode material does not establish that McGee has already left NCIS. The distinction matters: a character can contemplate a future change without the actor departing the series.

The report concerns the two-part Season 23 premiere and frames McGee’s plans as eventual, rather than an immediate departure. Read it as a possible direction for the character’s story, not a confirmed timeline or outcome. Read the report’s characterization of McGee’s exit plan.
Is Sean Murray leaving NCIS?
The evidence here does not confirm that Sean Murray is leaving NCIS. A TVLine interview surfaced in connection with exit rumors, but the available excerpt does not include enough of Murray’s answer to summarize it as a definitive confirmation or denial. See the TVLine interview reference.

For now, keep the two questions separate: McGee may be considering a future beyond the agency in the story; whether Murray will continue appearing is a real-world casting question that these sources do not settle.
