Who was Jack Von Erich Jr.?
Jack Barton Adkisson Jr. was born on September 21, 1952, and was Fritz and Doris Von Erich’s first son, according to a published family-history document. Kevin was the next-oldest son. How did Jack Jr. die?
Jack Jr. died in 1959, at age six. The Los Angeles Times reports that he was accidentally electrocuted, knocked unconscious, and then drowned in a puddle of melting snow. The family-history document also records his death. The Times reproduces Fritz’s account from Ron G. Mullinax’s 2004 biography, Fritz Von Erich: Master of the Iron Claw: “That night would change not only my personal life, but my wrestling career as well.” This is a quotation attributed to Fritz in the biography, not dialogue from the film.
What does The Iron Claw say about him?
The film refers to the family’s firstborn in its opening prologue. Later, Kevin tells Pam that he was not the oldest brother because the firstborn died when Kevin was five. The movie does not name Jack Jr. in that explanation or lay out how he died; the Los Angeles Times identifies the child as Jack Jr. and reports the fuller circumstances.

A24 describes the film as a true story about the Von Erich brothers and their rise in professional wrestling in the early 1980s. It focuses on a selection of the family’s story rather than presenting a complete chronology. In a director’s note for A24, Sean Durkin described the film’s concern as “the absence of grief and what can happen when people refuse to examine their pain.”

No. Jack Jr. and Chris are different brothers. Jack Jr. died as a young child in 1959. The Associated Press reports that Durkin omitted the youngest brother, Chris, from the film entirely. That adaptation choice is separate from the film’s brief allusion to Jack Jr. The Associated Press’s report discusses Chris’s absence from the movie.
