Guy Gansert is worth considering for a future season of The Golden Bachelor—but not because a protection-order application proves anything about his suitability. The reported record is narrower: his former wife filed an application in 2021, later asked to withdraw it, and a judge denied the petition for a temporary order. Reporting does not establish that a restraining order was ever granted, and no current casting decision has been announced in the sources available here.
What happened with the protection-order application?
USA TODAY, in a report updated October 11, 2024, said court documents showed that Gansert’s former wife, Heidi Seevers O’Gara, filed an application for a protection order against domestic violence in Nevada family court in October 2021. About three weeks later, she sought to withdraw it. The judge denied the petition for a temporary order. USA TODAY’s report, syndicated by Yahoo, therefore does not support saying that an order was issued and then canceled.

E! News also reported the withdrawal and reproduced comments from Gansert and the production representative. Its account is consistent with the distinction between an application and a granted temporary order.
What did Gansert say?
In a statement reproduced by USA TODAY, Gansert called the episode “an unfortunate situation” during an incredibly stressful time for him and his former spouse. He said she voluntarily dismissed her request for a protective order and that the matter was ultimately resolved in a way agreeable to both parties. He also said the divorce had been difficult and that he acted in a way that did not represent who he was.

Those are Gansert’s characterizations of the dispute, not independent findings about what happened between the former spouses. The reporting does not supply a judicial quotation or an independent account that resolves the underlying circumstances.
What did the show say about vetting?
A production representative quoted by USA TODAY said the show learned during vetting that the application had been filed, confirmed that the temporary order was never granted and that the request was voluntarily dismissed, and cleared Gansert to continue through casting. That is production’s account of its process, not an independent audit of the vetting.

Why consider him for The Golden Bachelor?
The case for Gansert is an argument about casting, not a claim that the application should be ignored or that the public knows every detail. The franchise centers on people arriving with complicated histories. Joan Vassos, speaking about the franchise on The Viall Files, said, “I feel like The Golden franchise is a little bit unique because we come here with a lot of past.” Us Weekly’s report attributes that comment to Vassos; it is her perspective, not a legal assessment of Gansert’s case.
A thoughtful casting decision should weigh the known procedural outcome, Gansert’s response, and the production’s stated vetting alongside whatever private checks and conversations the show considers appropriate. Viewers can reasonably differ about how much weight to give the episode. What would be unfair is to treat the filing alone as proof of misconduct—or to treat its withdrawal as proof that the underlying dispute never mattered.

Has Guy Gansert been named the next Golden Bachelor?
No current casting announcement is established by the reporting cited here. The argument that Gansert should be considered for the role remains an opinion, not news that he has been selected.
