Spoilers for the entire series finale. Player 222—the newborn baby of Jun-hee—wins Squid Game Season 3’s final challenge. Gi-hun, Player 456, protects the baby from Myung-gi and gives up his own life so she can survive. The win is hers; Gi-hun’s final act is one of sacrifice.
How the final Sky Squid Game works
The last challenge is Sky Squid Game, played across three towers shaped like a square, triangle and circle. To complete each round, at least one contestant must be pushed off its tower. In the later rounds, a player must also press a button on the ground to start the official round; a death before that does not count toward the requirement.

Jun-hee has died, and her newborn takes her place as Player 222. As the remaining contestants turn against one another, Gi-hun keeps the baby safe. On the final tower, only Gi-hun, Myung-gi and the baby remain. Gi-hun and Myung-gi fight and fall; the baby survives and is declared the winner.

Why Gi-hun’s sacrifice matters
Gi-hun does not win by surviving. He chooses the baby’s life over his own, making his final act protective rather than self-preserving. The game’s winner is Player 222, but the emotional resolution rests on what Gi-hun does to make her survival possible.
Creator and writer-director Hwang Dong-hyuk has said, “Ultimately, the baby represents the future generation.” He connects that idea to adults’ responsibility to leave a better world for those who come after them: “I believe we also have the responsibility and duty to try everything that we can in our power to leave a better world for the future generation.” These are Hwang’s stated intentions; viewers can draw their own readings from the ending.

Does the Cate Blanchett scene mean there will be a Season 4?
The final scene shows a recruiter played by Cate Blanchett playing ddakji. Hwang told TheWrap that he wanted the cameo to make an impact, not to hint at another season: “The reason I had Cate Blanchett in that scene at the end, it came from a place where I just wanted an impactful ending. It wasn’t anything to hint at a Season 4 or anything like that.” The scene may suggest recruitment and games extend beyond Korea, but it is not confirmation of a sequel. TheWrap’s interview with Hwang records his explanation.
