Toei Animation announced a three-month production hiatus from January through March 2026. The revised schedule was set to begin in April, after Egghead Arc Part 2. These are Japan broadcast plans; other territories and streaming services may follow different release schedules. What is changing in the anime’s schedule?
The series is moving to two cours per year, with an annual ceiling of up to 26 new episodes. “Up to” is important: Toei announced a maximum, not a promise that every year will contain exactly 26 episodes. The studio characterized the new annual output as a reduction from previous years but did not state a precise prior yearly episode count. Toei Animation USA’s press release gives the format and cap.
Toei’s 2025 announcement also described the historical adaptation pace as 11–12 anime episodes covering around four to five manga volumes. When did the Elbaph Arc begin?
Toei announced that the Elbaph Arc would premiere in Japan on April 5, 2026, following the three-month break after Egghead Arc Part 2. The premiere date is from the separate Elbaph Arc announcement, dated January 12, 2026. It is a Japan date, not confirmation that every international broadcaster or streaming platform released the episode on the same day.
Why did Toei change the schedule?
Toei said the new structure is intended to let future episodes incorporate more of the manga’s content, tempo, and pacing while retaining storytelling possibilities unique to animation. One Piece series producer Ryūta Koike called it “a strategic decision to support the advancement and evolution of the anime series.” These are the studio’s stated aims; they do not establish an independently verified improvement in animation quality or episode-by-episode adaptation.

When does One Piece return after the break?
For the break announced in 2025, the stated return was the Elbaph Arc’s Japan premiere on April 5, 2026. A separate question is whether the anime pauses again later in 2026: the official episode listing reviewed shows episode 1180 with a September 27, 2026 broadcast date, but does not establish what follows or give a confirmed next return date. That later schedule should not be inferred from the episode listing alone.
