Shane Smith, the former partner of Married at First Sight cast member Stacey Hampton and father of two of her sons, died in a motorcycle crash in Adelaide on 7 September 2022. He was 38. A passenger was seriously injured.
What happened in the crash?
Smith died at the scene after a crash on Milne Road in Redwood Park, Adelaide, at about 3am on Wednesday, 7 September 2022, ABC News reported. His passenger, a 45-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening. ABC News reported that Major Crash officers were investigating.
What was known about the cause?
The contemporaneous ABC report did not identify a cause, and the sources reviewed here do not report a final investigation finding. There is no established basis in these accounts to attribute the crash to speed, impairment, road conditions or another specific factor.
Who was Shane Smith?
ABC identified Smith as a member of the Rebels motorcycle gang and reported that he was Hampton’s former partner and a father of four. PerthNow described him as a “bikie boss,” but ABC’s account supports the more limited description of him as a Rebels member; the available reporting does not independently establish a leadership title.

What was his connection to Stacey Hampton?
Smith and Hampton had two sons together. After his death, Hampton shared a message on Instagram, quoted by 9Now: “Unfortunately, with life, it goes on. The boys need to try and live a normal life, considering, and I’m trying my hardest to make sure they smile.” 9Now reported Hampton’s response.
