Hints for the May 26, 2025 Connections groups
Try each clue before moving to the next. The first points toward a broad association; the last gives away the wordplay.
- What might be readily available for a guest?
- What describes when someone or something is very different from another?
- What are some things that can be worn?
- Change the first letter of each word to make the connection clearer.
Spoilers: category names and answers
Stop here if you do not want the full answer key. The four categories and their words are:
- Items in a linen closet: PILLOWCASE, SHEET, TOWEL, WASHCLOTH.
- Diametric: COUNTER, OPPOSITE, POLAR, REVERSE.
- Lingerie: GARTER, HOSE, SLIP, TEDDY.
- Card games with first letter changed: DIN, FRIDGE, GUMMY, JOKER.
How the wordplay works
In the last group, changing each given word’s first letter reveals a card game: DIN becomes GIN, FRIDGE becomes BRIDGE, GUMMY becomes RUMMY, and JOKER becomes POKER. The other groups are direct category matches: linen-closet items, words associated with opposites or diametric difference, and lingerie.
