Lazarus Is Over: Did the Finale Fix the Hit Anime or End in a Hot Mess?

The LAZARUS finale converges on Skinner, Axel, and Abel’s conflicts, but its official setup does not settle whether the payoff feels earned or rushed.

Spoiler-light verdict: “THE WORLD IS YOURS,” the 13th and final episode of LAZARUS, brings the series’ major conflicts into one endgame. That gives the story a chance to feel like a culmination—but convergence alone is not the same as satisfying resolution. The available audience reactions are split, and the official preview confirms the finale’s setup, not enough detail to certify how every thread actually lands. So the fairest answer is: the finale may close the story, but whether it fixes the series depends on whether its compressed payoff works for you.

What the finale sets out to resolve

The finale is episode 13, titled “THE WORLD IS YOURS.” TV Guide Japan identifies it as the final episode, and Aniplex’s official preview lays out the endgame: Axel encounters Twin Dragons at the top of Babylon Tower and fights to settle their conflict; Abel works to rescue Hersch; and Lazarus moves on Skinner after his location becomes known. The preview frames the team’s mission as an attempt to take the world back from him.

That is a substantial amount of dramatic work for one finale. The story has to bring the Skinner pursuit together with Axel’s confrontation and Abel’s rescue effort. The setup promises momentum and convergence; it does not, by itself, show how fully each conflict is resolved or how much space the episode gives its emotional consequences. Rotten Tomatoes lists the U.S. air date as June 29, 2025 and briefly summarizes the rescue, Axel’s confrontation, and the attempt to save humanity, but that listing is not a detailed recap or an independent critical assessment.

Does it fix LAZARUS?

Not automatically. A finale can complete a plot without repairing the pacing, characterization, or development that shaped the episodes before it. The useful question is whether the endgame makes those earlier choices feel purposeful: does the Skinner pursuit receive a meaningful payoff, do Axel and Abel’s threads feel resolved rather than simply stopped, and does the climactic pace leave room for the consequences to register?

The official setup makes those the right tests, but it cannot answer them for the episode. A viewer who values a fast convergence on the central threat may find the finale’s scope exciting. A viewer who wants each character conflict to breathe may find the same concentration rushed. Calling the ending a “hot mess” is a defensible critical judgment if the on-screen execution supports it; it is not an established fact or a verdict shared by everyone.

Why viewers disagree about whether the ending is rushed

Available fan discussion illustrates the split: commenters in the r/anime finale thread criticize the ending as rushed or say its payoff did not land, while a discussion in the LAZARUS community includes viewers who found it satisfying. These are individual posts in self-selected online discussions, not representative polling, a reliable audience score, or evidence that fans as a whole agree.

The disagreement makes sense for a finale balancing several conflicts at once. If its turns and resolutions feel earned, that density can read as a decisive culmination. If they feel too compressed, the same structure can make important developments seem undercooked. The official preview establishes what the episode is juggling; audience comments show different reactions, not which interpretation is objectively correct.

How to decide whether the payoff works for you

  • Skinner’s story: Does the pursuit deliver a meaningful payoff, or does reaching the end of the chase stand in for one?
  • Axel and Abel: Do their conflicts feel resolved, not merely concluded alongside the central mission?
  • Pacing: Does the episode give its climactic events enough room to land, or does it move past them too quickly?
  • Emotional and thematic weight: Do the characters’ choices and the stakes make the ending feel consequential, even if some parts move quickly?

Those questions separate plot closure from series-wide repair. The finale’s premise puts several answers on the table, but only the episode’s execution can determine whether they feel earned.

Where to find the finale and its soundtrack

Aniplex’s official home-video announcement says the second LAZARUS Blu-ray/DVD box contains episodes 8–13, including the finale. Aniplex’s official series site also announced three soundtrack titles, with CD and vinyl editions. These are physical-release details, not confirmation of current retailer stock, regional compatibility, or language options; check the specific edition before buying.
