The Kinds of Kindness trailer introduces a strange three-part fable from director Yorgos Lanthimos, reuniting him with Emma Stone after Poor Things. It is a new, standalone film—not a sequel to Poor Things—and its three stories share a thematic thread rather than following one continuous plot.
What the Kinds of Kindness trailer is about
Searchlight’s official synopsis presents three distinct stories: a man attempting to take control of his life; a policeman shaken when his wife, who had been missing at sea, returns; and a woman searching for a person with a special ability who is destined to become a spiritual leader. Together, the stories form a contemporary triptych fable. The synopsis does not establish more detailed plot connections than that shared structure and thematic thread. Is Kinds of Kindness a Poor Things sequel?
No. “Follow-up” means a later collaboration between Stone and Lanthimos, not a continuation of Bella Baxter’s story. The studio describes Kinds of Kindness as three thematically connected stories in one film; it does not identify the film as a sequel to Poor Things. The pair also worked together on The Favourite. Lanthimos said the project began as one story before the filmmakers developed it into an anthology, aiming to keep a thematic thread across its parts. Stone described the script as developing into a triptych, with stories that “weave together in a way that is not necessarily clear but capitalizes on what has come before.” Both comments are quoted by The Walt Disney Company.
