It has since premiered at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), but a general release or streaming service has not been confirmed by the reporting available as of the premiere.
What is Sung Kang’s drift movie called?
The film is Drifter, an independently produced feature written, directed by and starring Kang, best known to many viewers as Han in the Fast & Furious films. The Canadian International AutoShow’s announcement identifies Kang’s roles on the film and credits producer Brian Yang and Raison d’Etre Stories.

What is Drifter about?
Kang plays Tree, a solitary janitor working at a raceway in Barstow, California. He drives a battered but beloved 1980s Toyota AE86 Corolla, then finds an opportunity to compete in the “Legends of Drift.” The AutoShow describes the story as one of redemption and belonging through competitive drifting.
The AE86 is more than a detail in the setup: SEMA’s October 2025 announcement also identifies the Corolla as the film’s hero car.

Where and when was Drifter filmed?
Filming at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey, is in the past. Road & Track reported on November 20, 2025, that the production’s final principal-filming day took place there alongside the ticketed Legends of Drift competition. Its report and a later Saturation account connect the shoot to the event; Saturation says the finale was filmed during the August 23–24, 2025 event, with attendees in the stands.
Those dates explain the old “is filming” wording: it referred to production activity reported in 2025, not an ongoing shoot.

Has Drifter been released, and where can you watch it?
Drifter premiered at TIFF on September 12, 2026, with additional festival screenings reported for September 14 and 18. Saturation said the film had no distributor or theatrical date as of the premiere. That does not establish whether it is now available through a streaming service or for home viewing.
IMDb lists a September 2026 US release date on its title page, but that entry does not identify the release format or confirm broad availability. A festival premiere and a database release-date listing are not enough to establish where viewers can watch the film. Look for a direct announcement from the distributor, filmmaker or platform before relying on a specific service or date.
