Spoilers for all of Yellowjackets Season 1. Season 1 includes deaths in two timelines: the 1996 wilderness story and the present-day story. The crash, Laura Lee’s plane explosion, and Jackie’s freezing death occur in the wilderness; Travis, Adam, and Jessica die in the present day. The available season recap does not provide a complete named list of crash victims, and it does not identify the person in the opening hunt.
Who dies in Yellowjackets Season 1?
The show interweaves the survivors’ time in the wilderness with events years later, so separating deaths by timeline makes the circumstances clearer. Paramount+ lists Season 1 as ten episodes, from “Pilot” through “Sic Transit Gloria Mundi.” Paramount+’s season recap describes the deaths and the survivors’ responses.
| Timeline | Death or loss | Immediate circumstances | What is established |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1996 wilderness | Plane crash casualties | The team’s plane crashes in the Canadian woods. | The recap says the pilots and head coach die; it does not give a complete named casualty list. |
| 1996 wilderness | Laura Lee | Her plane catches fire and explodes during an attempted flight for help. | Her death is accidental. |
| 1996 wilderness | Jackie Taylor | She remains outside overnight after the Doomcoming conflict and freezes in the snow. | Exposure, described as hypothermia, is the immediate cause. |
| Present day | Travis Martinez | He is found hanging from a crane at his work site. | The recap says he appears to have died by suicide; the circumstances are not conclusively settled. |
| Present day | Adam Martin | Shauna kills him, believing he is blackmailing her and the other survivors. | She later realizes her suspicion may have been wrong. |
| Present day | Jessica Roberts | Misty poisons her, believing she is the blackmailer. | Jessica had been hired by Taissa to research her campaign. |
Deaths in the 1996 wilderness timeline
The plane crash casualties
The team’s plane crashes in the Canadian woods. Paramount+’s recap confirms that the pilots and the team’s head coach die. Assistant coach Ben Scott survives despite severe injuries. The recap does not name every passenger who dies or establish a full casualty count, so a definitive total cannot be given from these details.
Laura Lee
Laura Lee attempts to fly the abandoned plane to find help. It catches fire and explodes, killing her. This is an accident during an effort to reach rescuers, not a death directly caused by another member of the group. Her death precedes the Doomcoming celebration, which becomes a turning point for the survivors.

Jackie Taylor
After the Doomcoming conflict, Jackie argues with the others and leaves the cabin. She chooses to sleep outside. Unable to start a fire and unwilling to ask to come back in, she remains there through the night and freezes. TIME critic Judy Berman describes the immediate cause as hypothermia and interprets Jackie’s death as severing the group’s last tie to its prior social order. TIME’s Season 1 finale review offers that critical reading; the immediate circumstances are that Jackie spends the night exposed to the cold.
Deaths in the present-day timeline
Travis Martinez
Travis is found hanging from a crane at his work site. The recap says he “appears to have killed himself,” a qualification that matters: Season 1 presents those apparent circumstances but does not conclusively resolve the mystery. Natalie investigates his death.

Jessica Roberts
Misty poisons Jessica, whom she suspects of being the blackmailer. Jessica was actually hired by Taissa to conduct background research for Taissa’s campaign. Misty’s mistaken belief about Jessica’s role leads to her death.

What happens to the person in the opening hunt?
The opening hunt shows an unidentified victim. Paramount+’s recap and official episode guide do not establish that person’s identity, so Season 1’s available account does not support naming the victim or connecting the scene to a later revelation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to read the Season 1 death list
The losses are not all the same kind of event. The crash and Laura Lee’s explosion are accidents; Jackie dies after remaining outside in the cold; Travis’s death is described as apparent suicide but remains unresolved; and Shauna and Misty each kill someone based on mistaken suspicions. Keeping those distinctions intact avoids turning qualified or accidental deaths into confirmed acts of violence.
