What is Love & Death about?
Created by David E. Kelley, Love & Death dramatizes the case of Candy Montgomery and Betty Gore, two women in suburban Texas. The series is based on a real case, but it is a scripted reconstruction: dialogue, private conversations and portrayed motives should not be treated as independently verified historical facts.
Lionsgate lists April 27, 2023 as the series’ release date. Warner Bros. Discovery announced in May 2021 that HBO Max had ordered it as a limited series, with Kelley writing and Lesli Linka Glatter directing.
Who stars in the series?
Elizabeth Olsen stars as Candy Montgomery. The principal cast also includes Jesse Plemons and Lily Rabe; Netflix Tudum additionally lists Patrick Fugit, Tom Pelphrey and Krysten Ritter.

Is Love & Death based on a true story?
Yes. The series draws on the real Candy Montgomery and Betty Gore case in Wylie, Texas. Netflix Tudum says the affair began in December 1978, the fatal confrontation took place on June 13, 1980, and Montgomery was acquitted at trial. Those points provide the broad real-world frame; the official series sources do not establish a scene-by-scene fact check.
