Who killed Maria in Cross?
Peter Lennox was Maria’s killer. Miss Nancy, Damon’s piano teacher and a trusted presence in the Cross family’s life, ordered him to do it. The distinction matters: Peter carried out the murder, while Nancy planned it as revenge against Alex.

Why did Miss Nancy target Alex?
Peter had been connected to Deirdre, a woman who took responsibility for a murder Peter had committed. Nancy persuaded Deirdre to accept the blame because she believed a white woman would receive a more lenient sentence than Peter, a Black man. Alex’s testimony helped send Deirdre to prison for life. After Deirdre died by suicide in prison, Nancy and Peter blamed Alex.
Nancy’s revenge escalated beyond Maria’s murder. She drew Alex’s family to a secluded cabin and forced him to choose which child she would kill. Alex, John, and the family survive the confrontation. Peter is arrested, and Nancy dies by setting herself on fire.

What happens to Ed Ramsey at the end of Cross season 1?
Ramsey, the killer known as Fanboy, appears to die by suicide in episode seven, but the death is a fake. He returns to the hospital intending to kill Shannon Witmer. Alex anticipates that Ramsey will continue pursuing his plan and catches him there.
Why do Alex and John burn Ed’s scrapbook?
The team has evidence against Ramsey, including a scrapbook documenting his murders. Alex and John understand that publicizing it would give Ramsey the notoriety he craves. They burn it where he can see, taking away the personal trophy that represents the legacy he hoped to leave.

Actor Ryan Eggold described Ramsey as desperate to be “worshipped and remembered” among notorious killers. In a November 2024 interview with TV Insider, Eggold said that when Cross takes that legacy away, Ramsey loses control—the thing he fears most.
There are two separate defeats here: Ramsey is caught with evidence that can support prosecution, and Alex denies him the notoriety he wanted. The finale establishes the arrest and the destruction of the scrapbook; it does not spell out every later legal consequence.

Where does Alex’s story end?
Alex recognizes that grief over Maria has made him lash out and damaged his brotherhood with John. He apologizes to him, and the season ends with Alex telling his therapist he is ready to talk about his grief. That emotional step is separate from the case resolutions: the family survives, but Alex still has to face the loss that has shaped his actions.

- Nana Mama reunites with the family after Peter attacked her.
- Alex publicly apologizes to the man he wrongly accused and assaulted.
- Kayla offers Bobby Trey a reduced sentence and immunity in exchange for cooperation in the Fanboy case; the finale does not establish every consequence of that deal.
What is Cross season 1?
The first season is an eight-episode Prime Video crime thriller created and showrun by Ben Watkins, based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels. Amazon describes Alex as a D.C. homicide detective and forensic psychologist. Prime Video is the official streaming context, though availability and subscription terms can vary by market and date.
