The Orville Season 4 has a promising creative update, but it has not been confirmed as filming or given a release date. Seth MacFarlane said in March 2026 that the season was written and that ten scripts were complete; the remaining hurdle, he said, was finding time to produce it. In August, director Jon Cassar dismissed a fall-filming rumor and said there was still no confirmation.
What Seth MacFarlane said about Season 4
On March 4, 2026, TVLine reported comments MacFarlane made to The Hollywood Reporter: “I will be honest with you: Season 4 is written. It’s just a question of when we have the time to produce it.” He also said the ten scripts were done and described himself as “the problem,” pointing to his schedule and other work. TVLine’s report presents this as a timing issue, not a production start announcement.

Ten completed scripts are a substantial sign of preparation, but they do not by themselves confirm a formal ten-episode order. The report supports saying that ten scripts were written; it does not establish a publicly announced episode order, shooting dates, or a premiere window.
Has The Orville Season 4 started filming?
No filming start is established by the available reports. On August 3, 2026, director Jon Cassar responded to a rumor of fall filming by saying, “Its an old article – still no confirmation – It’ll be very obvious when its true.” CinemaBlend reported Cassar’s response and noted that the March scripts-and-schedule update remained the latest status.
#1 Best Overall
So the clearest description is: scripts are written, while production timing remains unresolved. A creator’s update and a director’s comment are not the same as a formal renewal or production announcement from Hulu or Disney.
Is Season 4 happening, and when will it come out?
MacFarlane’s comments make Season 4 sound creatively prepared, but the reports cited here do not establish an official renewal announcement, a production schedule, or a release date. The August 2026 reporting also does not confirm the fall filming rumor. There is therefore no supported date to give for when new episodes might arrive.

The change from earlier uncertainty is notable. In January 2024, MacFarlane told TheWrap, “All I can tell you is that there is no official death certificate for ‘The Orville’,” adding that there were too many factors for him to say more. Scott Grimes said conversations about a fourth season were ongoing, while Adrianne Palicki expressed uncertainty about returning while the project remained in limbo. Those earlier comments do not confirm current cast commitments. TheWrap’s 2024 interview is useful context, not evidence of a present-day production plan.

The Orville began on Fox, where its first two seasons aired, and moved to Hulu for its third season, titled The Orville: New Horizons. Season 3 aired in 2022. Disney announced in July 2022 that all three seasons would be available on Disney+ in the United States beginning August 10, 2022, while the show would continue streaming on Hulu. Disney’s announcement documents that historical U.S. availability; it does not establish current catalog access in every country.
