The Umbrella Academy ended with Season 4; Netflix announced it as the series’ fourth and final season, and no Season 5 or television follow-up is established in Netflix’s official material reviewed as of October 8, 2026. The finale closes the Hargreeves siblings’ story with a sacrifice to restore the timeline, while leaving one character’s fate—Sloane’s—open.
Is The Umbrella Academy Season 5 happening?
No Season 5 has been announced. Netflix called Season 4 the “fourth and final season” when it announced the renewal in 2022, and its Season 4 guide likewise identifies it as the final season. The season premiered on August 8, 2024.

Netflix’s official coverage does not establish a sequel series, spinoff, or other television continuation. That means Season 5 is not something viewers should expect as a confirmed next chapter; it does not prove that Netflix could never revisit the property in the future.
What happened at the end of Season 4?
Spoilers for the series finale. The siblings learn that the Marigold inside them must be eliminated to restore the one true timeline. They allow the Cleanse to consume them, ceasing to exist so that the timeline can be set right.

In Netflix’s finale explainer, creator, showrunner, and executive producer Steve Blackman described the ending’s central question: “Are you truly a superhero if no one ever knows that you’re the ones who saved them?” His framing makes the finale less a setup for another adventure than a story about family and anonymous sacrifice: the siblings save everyone, but do not remain to receive recognition.
What comes next after the series?
Rewatch the completed Netflix series
The four-season television adaptation is the finished screen story. Netflix’s Season 4 guide lists four seasons; viewing availability can vary by country and over time.

Read the source graphic novels
The series adapts The Umbrella Academy graphic novels by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, published by Dark Horse. They offer another way to explore the franchise, but they are source material—not a continuation of the Netflix timeline or evidence that a fifth season is planned. Netflix discusses the comics in its finale coverage.

Sloane’s fate is not definitively resolved. Blackman told Netflix, “I think Sloane exists in the timeline, but she has never found Luther, and Luther never found her.” He also left open whether the reset was complete and whether Sloane exists or remembers anything. His comments leave the character’s status deliberately uncertain; they do not confirm a Season 5. See Netflix’s Sloane Q&A.
