The Fantastic Four: First Steps makes Franklin Richards important to the MCU’s story: he is Reed and Sue’s son, and Galactus seeks him. But the official material available does not establish that Franklin is the MCU’s most powerful character—or give a definitive ranking at all.
What the MCU has established about Franklin Richards
Marvel describes The Fantastic Four: First Steps as the Fantastic Four’s official induction into the MCU. The film introduces Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm in a retro-futuristic setting. Franklin is Reed and Sue’s son, placing him at the center of the family’s conflict with Galactus. Marvel’s movie page and Disney’s official synopsis establish that premise.
That framing signals that Franklin matters to the plot. It does not, by itself, tell viewers exactly what powers he has, how far those powers reach, or how he would fare against every other MCU character. Story importance and demonstrated power are different things.
Why does Galactus want Franklin?
Disney’s synopsis says Galactus threatens Earth and seeks Reed and Sue’s son. That is the confirmed story premise. It makes Franklin the focus of a major threat, but the synopsis does not specify a reason tied to a particular ability or define his power level. Claims beyond the stated premise should be treated as interpretation unless the film itself supports them.

Does that make Franklin the MCU’s most powerful character?
No definitive ranking is established by the official material cited here. To answer the question carefully, separate three kinds of evidence:
- On-screen abilities: What Franklin actually does in the film, rather than what viewers expect him to do.
- Story framing: What the premise says about his importance, including Galactus’s pursuit.
- Comics history: Franklin’s reputation and feats in Marvel comics, which are not automatically evidence of the MCU character’s abilities.
The available official film descriptions establish Franklin’s family relationship and narrative importance, not a complete account of his on-screen powers. They also do not compare him with the MCU’s other powerful characters. So “the most powerful” is not a confirmed MCU fact on this evidence.
What Kevin Feige’s comments do—and do not—confirm
In a July 2025 interview with GamesRadar+, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige directed questions about Franklin’s significance to the comics. That points readers toward the character’s comic-book background; it is not confirmation of a specific MCU power level or a future role.
Marvel’s Fantastic Four comics page provides context for Franklin as a comics character. Comic-book feats belong to that continuity unless the film establishes the same abilities. A comics reputation can explain why viewers are watching Franklin closely, but it cannot settle an MCU ranking on its own.

How to judge Franklin’s power as the MCU story develops
A meaningful comparison needs evidence about both what Franklin can do and how the film presents those abilities. The current official premise supplies the second kind of clue—his importance to Galactus’s plan—but not a complete set of comparable feats or an all-character ranking. Marvel has described The Fantastic Four: First Steps as the team’s MCU arrival; Disney announced its U.S. opening for July 25, 2025. Neither announcement supplies a definitive power hierarchy.
