Who plays Su-in/Heidi?
Jeon So-nee as Jeong Su-in
Jeon So-nee plays Jeong Su-in, the human at the center of the series. Unidentified parasites take over human hosts, but Su-in is an exception: after a car accident, a parasite saves her, and her actions also save it. They end up sharing her body, with Su-in retaining some humanity. Heidi is the name associated with the parasite; Su-in and Heidi are not two separate, ordinary human characters.

What is Team Grey?
Team Grey is the government task force assigned to eliminate parasites. Its name also reflects the story’s boundary between concealment and exposure, and Su-in’s position between the human and parasite worlds. Director Yeon Sang-ho explained that “Gray could mean the mixture of these two different kinds of agents,” in Netflix Tudum’s interview. He described the manga’s central idea as coexistence: “To me, [the manga] Parasyte is about coexistence.”

Yes, but it is not a direct retelling. The series draws on the universe of Parasyte, the manga by Japanese author Hitoshi Iwaaki, published by Kodansha, while telling a new story with fresh characters. The television series is set in the South Korean city of Namil; the manga’s setting is Fukuyama, in Japan’s Hiroshima Prefecture. Iwaaki welcomed the change in Netflix’s February 28, 2024 announcement, saying he was excited that it was “a new story” and that he could experience it as an audience member.
