Steven Spielberg’s film is called Disclosure Day. Official studio pages confirm teaser and trailer materials, but their descriptions do not establish what the mysterious image depicts—so it cannot be confirmed from those descriptions alone that the image shows an alien. The film’s official premise centers on the hypothetical proof of extraterrestrial life and how people might react.
What is Spielberg’s new sci-fi movie called?
The title is Disclosure Day, described by NBCUniversal as an original event film created and directed by Steven Spielberg. Spielberg supplied the story, and David Koepp wrote the screenplay. Amblin lists Janusz Kamiński as cinematographer. Amblin’s official film page and NBCUniversal’s release page provide official film and promotional information.
What does the mysterious alien image show?
That is not established by the available official page descriptions. Amblin lists an official teaser, a “First Look,” a “Fascinating Look,” and a Super Bowl spot; NBCUniversal hosts trailer materials. Those listings confirm that promotional videos exist, but do not describe the image in enough detail to verify that it depicts an alien or explain what it means in the story.
NBCUniversal’s trailer synopsis asks, “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you?” It adds, “This summer, the truth belongs to eight billion people. We are coming close to … Disclosure Day.” That is promotional language framing the film’s premise, not a complete plot summary or an audience measurement.

Who is in Disclosure Day, and what is it about?
The official cast list includes Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo. Kristie Macosko Krieger and Spielberg produced for Amblin Entertainment; NBCUniversal also lists Adam Somner and Chris Brigham as executive producers.
An Associated Press interview gives more character detail: O’Connor plays a cybersecurity whistleblower with government evidence of a suppressed history of alien encounters; Domingo plays a leader in the disclosure movement; Firth plays a corporate executive trying to keep the information secret; and Blunt plays meteorologist Margaret Fairchild, who experiences a mysterious epiphany. These reported details suggest a story about concealed information and its consequences, while the full plot is not laid out in the trailer synopsis. The Associated Press interview also reports Spielberg’s emphasis on empathy and characters confronting the unknown.

When did Disclosure Day come out?
The dates in the cited sources differ by one day. Amblin lists June 12, 2026, as the theatrical release date, as does NBCUniversal’s release page, dated June 10, 2026. An Associated Press interview published June 3, 2026, says June 11. The sources do not explain the discrepancy, so neither date should be presented as a territory-specific explanation. Both dates have passed as of October 8, 2026; these sources alone do not establish current theatrical or home-media availability.

The reported subject supports a comparison, not a sequel claim. The Associated Press places the film in the context of Spielberg’s long-standing interest in extraterrestrial life and his earlier film Close Encounters of the Third Kind. In the interview, Spielberg described Disclosure Day as a science-fiction film he does not personally consider science fiction, and Koepp recalled Spielberg pitching the idea as “Oh, you know, aliens again. But different this time.” That provides context for the thematic lineage, but no reviewed official source calls Disclosure Day a sequel.
