Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 brings back eight Season 2 series regulars, promotes Martin Quinn’s Montgomery Scott to series regular, and features Paul Wesley as a special guest star playing Kirk. Guest performers include Rhys Darby, Patton Oswalt, Cillian O’Sullivan, Melanie Scrofano and Carol Kane. The official cast announcements identify some characters, but do not provide a complete episode-by-episode appearance map.
Who returns in Strange New Worlds season 3?
Paramount+ identified these eight actors as returning Season 2 series regulars in its June 13, 2025 cast announcement:
| Actor | Character | Season 3 billing |
|---|---|---|
| Anson Mount | Captain Christopher Pike | Returning series regular |
| Rebecca Romijn | Number One | Returning series regular |
| Ethan Peck | Spock | Returning series regular |
| Jess Bush | Christine Chapel | Returning series regular |

| Celia Rose Gooding | Nyota Uhura | Returning series regular |
| Melissa Navia | Erica Ortegas | Returning series regular |
| Babs Olusanmokun | Joseph M’Benga | Returning series regular |
These are the returning regulars, not a complete list of every performer who appears during the season. Paramount+’s June 13, 2025 cast and release article supplies the series-regular designations.
Is Scotty a regular in season 3?
Yes. Martin Quinn returns as Montgomery “Scotty” Scott, now billed as a series regular. Quinn guest-starred as the Enterprise engineer in Season 2; the change in Season 3 is his billing status, not a newly introduced character.

Is Paul Wesley back as Kirk?
Yes. Paul Wesley is billed as a special guest star playing James T. Kirk. Paramount+ uses the “special guest star” designation, and the official character-poster article identifies his character as James T. Kirk. That billing should not be mistaken for a series-regular role.
Who are the new characters in season 3?
The official sources identify several notable characters, but they do not describe every new character or provide a full roster of who appears in which episode. The clearest named identifications include:

These identifications are drawn from the official Season 3 character-poster article and season primer. They are selected character details, not an exhaustive list of new or returning characters.
Which actors are guest stars?
The official May 15, 2025 announcement bills Rhys Darby, Patton Oswalt, Cillian O’Sullivan, Melanie Scrofano and Carol Kane as guest stars. Paul Wesley is separately billed as a special guest star. Some of the performers return in roles already introduced in the series, including Kane as Pelia; the guest category does not mean every performer is a newcomer to Strange New Worlds.

Season 3 continues under Captain Pike and opens with “Hegemony, Part II,” carrying forward the Gorn encounter that ended Season 2. The May 15 announcement teases new life, civilizations and a villain, without offering a detailed episode-by-episode plot guide.

In the July 17, 2025 primer, co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers described the series as approachable for both new and returning viewers: “We try very hard to make a show that anyone can watch and there is very little that you have to have watched to watch our show. We try to make it open for everyone. For people who’ve seen the show before, there’s a lot of great treats in there for you, but for people who’ve never seen Star Trek before, they could watch it just as well.” In the same primer, Jess Bush said of the cliffhanger: “The Gorn are a foot. Beware and stay vigilant.”
