Spoilers for the series finale, Season 4, Episode 10, “The End is Here.” Harry’s final test is a newcomer carrying the same mission he once had: destroy humanity. The Patience group helps the alien see human life differently, and the immediate threat ends with him choosing to spare people. Harry then leaves Earth with Bridget to join Heather and their newly hatched babies. The series resolves Harry’s central mission, while leaving its world open to possible future stories.
Who is the new alien in the finale?
At the start of “The End is Here,” Dr. Ethan Stone is still angry after General McCallister kidnapped and tortured him, mistaking him for Harry. An alien ship from Harry’s home planet crashes onto Ethan’s car, apparently killing him. The pilot takes Ethan’s appearance and arrives with a mission to destroy humanity. The newcomer mirrors Harry at the beginning of the series: both arrive from another world with a destructive purpose. Harry and his friends try to change the newcomer’s view by introducing him to human experiences, including food, alcohol and music. By the end, the alien has come around to sparing humanity. The finale resolves this immediate danger; it does not establish that a continuing invasion follows.
Does Harry leave Earth?
Yes. Harry leaves Earth with his son, Bridget, to join Heather and their newly hatched babies. USA Network’s account of the finale confirms the destination, while creator and showrunner Chris Sheridan explains that Harry has learned what he came to learn and is ready to go home in an interview with USA Network / USA Insider.

That departure completes Harry’s emotional arc. He began as an alien sent to commit atrocities; through his connections with people on Earth, he came to understand humanity and nearly became human himself. He leaves by choice, with family ties and relationships shaped by his time in Patience.
Where do the other characters end up?
- Mike and Liv: They join the government’s work monitoring non-Earthly phenomena after another ship crashes on Earth. The operation, formerly led by General McCallister, is now under David Logan’s leadership.
- Asta: She decides not to move to Amsterdam and leaves Patience for disaster-relief nursing in Louisiana.
- Jay: She heads to college.
- D’Arcy: She tries to help a fellow AA member while continuing her own recovery.
These outcomes give the residents lives beyond Harry’s departure. Mike and Liv’s new work also leaves a government response to future alien arrivals in place, but that story thread is not confirmation of another season or film. USA Network’s recap covers these character endings.

Is Resident Alien over after Season 4?
The television series ended with Season 4. SYFY identified it as the final season and listed “The End is Here” as the finale, dated August 8, 2025. The series is based on the Dark Horse comic by writer Peter Hogan and illustrator Steve Parkhouse. SYFY’s finale coverage provides those series details.
Sheridan said he did not want the show to leave its audience hanging: “The last thing I wanted was to leave the show hanging. Audiences hate that. Everyone hates that, and I would hate that.” He has also discussed a possible future movie, and TVLine reported his openness to that possibility. Is the ending a cliffhanger?
Not for Harry’s central story: the newcomer changes course, and Harry leaves Earth after completing the journey that brought him there. The government monitoring team and Sheridan’s comments about a possible movie leave room for more stories, but they do not undo that resolution or establish that a continuation is in development.
