What is Grýla’s plan in Red One?
Grýla wants to lock away people she considers naughty inside magical snow globes called Glaskäfigs. She takes Santa to the North Pole and siphons his magic to produce more globes, turning his power into a tool for imprisonment. The threat is not that Santa has vanished from the world: the question is where he is being held and how the rescue team can reach him.

How do Callum and Jack find Santa?
Jack’s tracker helps the team discover that Santa remains inside the North Pole complex. Grýla’s shapeshifting forces have taken over the facility, which helps explain why the search has been difficult: Santa is hidden within the place the team needs to breach, rather than being held somewhere else.

How do Jack and Dylan escape the globes?
Jack and Dylan are trapped in separate Glaskäfigs. Their escape is tied to a change in how they relate to each other: Jack speaks honestly about their estrangement, and the conversation helps them confront the distance between them. The scene is both a practical turn in the rescue and the emotional heart of the ending.
Their reconciliation is a beginning, not proof that every strain between them has disappeared. The final sleigh ride gives father and son a shared experience that Jack’s earlier skepticism had kept at a distance.

How is Grýla defeated?
The team confronts Grýla at the North Pole. With Krampus’ help and Santa’s reindeer overwhelming her, the rescuers capture her inside one of the globes she intended to use on others. Santa is freed, and the immediate threat to the people Grýla targeted is stopped.
What happens after Santa is rescued?
Santa resumes his Christmas Eve deliveries. Jack and Dylan join him on the sleigh, making their renewed connection part of the rescue’s aftermath rather than a separate resolution.

Callum also changes course. He had become disillusioned by what he saw as a growing number of naughty people and wanted to leave Santa’s security detail. After witnessing Jack and Dylan begin to reconnect, he sees that people can change and asks Santa to rescind his resignation.
What does the Red One ending mean?
A grounded reading is that the ending connects Christmas belief with acts of care and repair. Jack’s change is not only discovering that Santa is real; it is taking responsibility for rebuilding trust with Dylan. Callum’s renewed sense of purpose follows from seeing that change. That is an interpretation of the ending, rather than a stated explanation from the filmmakers.
Director Jake Kasdan described the creative premise as a chance to tell a version of Santa’s story audiences had not quite seen before: “That was absolutely one of the most exciting aspects of this movie, was sort of looking at a way that we could tell Santa’s story that we’ve never quite seen before, right?” Amazon’s feature page includes the interview and film information. Writer and story originator Hiram Garcia has also described the aim as turning Christmas mythology on its head and creating a definitive Santa Claus; that is his stated creative goal, not evidence that the film presents traditional folklore.
