Did HIM debut with a 30% Rotten Tomatoes score?
That exact debut figure is not established. The Associated Press reported a 29% Rotten Tomatoes score in its opening-weekend story published September 21, 2025. The current Rotten Tomatoes page displays 30% when checked in 2026. Those are snapshots from different dates, and the score can change as reviews are added or listings refresh. The AP’s September 21 report does not prove the film’s exact score at the moment it debuted.

Apple TV’s U.S. listing also displays a 30% Tomatometer score, alongside 231 reviews: 69 fresh and 162 rotten, at the time checked. Apple is presenting Rotten Tomatoes data, not a second independent review aggregation. The U.S. listing is another dated snapshot, not a permanent rating.
Rotten Tomatoes’ current Critics Consensus reads: “Fumbling the ball well before the red zone, HIM has style to spare but botches its promising conceit with rookie execution.” This is the site’s consensus, not a quotation attributed to an individual critic. See the current Rotten Tomatoes page.

What is HIM about, and who made it?
HIM is a football-centered horror thriller. Tyriq Withers plays Cameron Cade, a young quarterback attacked by an unhinged fan. His football idol, veteran quarterback Isaiah White, played by Marlon Wayans, offers to train him; the mentor’s charisma eventually turns sinister. Universal classifies the film as Horror and Thriller and lists a runtime of 1 hour 37 minutes. Apple TV lists 1 hour 36 minutes, a one-minute discrepancy between the two listings.
Jordan Peele is a producer, not the director. Justin Tipping directed the film and shares screenplay credit with Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie. Apple TV lists Ian Cooper, Peele, Win Rosenfeld, and Jamal M. Watson as producers for Monkeypaw Productions. Universal’s official film page provides the studio synopsis and credits.

The Associated Press reported estimated North American ticket sales of $13.5 million for the September 19–21, 2025 opening weekend, placing HIM second at the box office. That was an estimate based on studio figures, not a final gross. AP film writer Jake Coyle wrote: “But that promise gets fumbled in an allegorical chamber play that grows increasingly tedious.”
