Executive producer Scott Kreamer said the apparent-death storyline was planned before Jenna Ortega’s non-return—not invented because she had become too busy or famous. Spoiler: the explanation below reveals the season’s twist.
What happens to Brooklynn in Chaos Theory?
Ortega originally voiced Brooklynn in Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. The 2024 follow-up, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, opens after an attack that appears to have killed her. The setup, including the trailer, led viewers to believe Brooklynn was dead.
The season later reveals that she survived. The attack left her with a limb difference, and Kiersten Kelly voices her in Chaos Theory. So Brooklynn is not permanently killed off, though the role was recast and Ortega did not return. The Independent’s June 5, 2024 report describes the apparent death, survival reveal and recasting.
Did Ortega’s growing fame cause the storyline?
The timing made that theory plausible to some viewers: Ortega’s career had become more prominent, she was absent from the follow-up, and the show began by presenting Brooklynn as dead. But that timing does not establish that the writers killed off the character because Ortega was too big to return.

In a May 29, 2024 interview with CinemaBlend, executive producer Scott Kreamer said the apparent-death idea came first: “The whole idea of Brooklyn dying, that happened long before. That was written with Jenna doing the role that was not like, ‘Oh, we’re not gonna be able to get Jenna, what can we do?’ It was like, ‘No, this is the character who would be asking the questions that would get her into trouble.’ We knew we were gonna see Brooklynn in flashbacks.”
Kreamer’s account directly contradicts the claim that the plot was devised as a workaround for Ortega’s availability. It describes the apparent death as part of the character’s planned story, with Brooklynn expected to appear in flashbacks.

Why is Brooklynn voiced by someone else?
Ortega did not reprise the role in Chaos Theory; Kelly took over. The CinemaBlend interview with Kreamer and co-executive producer Aaron Hammersley discusses the recasting. Once the story established that Brooklynn survived with a limb difference, the producers considered performers with limb differences as well as performers without them. Kreamer said they chose Kelly for her performance and connection to the role.
The producers’ account explains the casting decision, but the cited coverage does not include a definitive first-person explanation from Ortega about why she did not return. Her absence and the story’s planned apparent death are related circumstances, not proof that fame caused the plot.

Is this about Jurassic World Rebirth?
No. The rumor concerns Brooklynn in the animated series Camp Cretaceous and its sequel, Chaos Theory. It is separate from the film Jurassic World Rebirth; the film’s official synopsis does not address Brooklynn or the reason for the animated series’ storyline.
