Deep Cover centers on three unlikely undercover recruits: Bryce Dallas Howard plays Kat, an improv teacher; Orlando Bloom plays her student Marlon; and Nick Mohammed plays her student Hugh. When an undercover police officer offers Kat a job, she brings the two students into a dangerous operation in London’s criminal underworld.
Deep Cover cast: the central trio
| Actor | Character | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Bryce Dallas Howard | Kat | An improv comedy teacher recruited for an undercover police operation. She brings two of her students along. |
| Orlando Bloom | Marlon | One of Kat’s improv students. In an interview guide, Bloom describes Marlon as an out-of-work method actor who takes himself too seriously. |
| Nick Mohammed | Hugh | One of Kat’s students. Mohammed describes Hugh as an office worker who takes an improv class to build confidence and is soon out of his depth. |
Howard has described the character’s defining strength this way: “What I love about Kat is that she’s not a spy or a fighter, she’s a comedian and a teacher and that becomes her superpower.” The quote appears in Nicholas Cannon’s What to Watch cast guide, updated June 12, 2025.
How Kat, Marlon and Hugh end up undercover
Kat is questioning whether she has missed her chance to succeed when Billings, an undercover cop played by Sean Bean, offers her an unusual opportunity. She recruits Marlon and Hugh, and the three attempt to infiltrate London’s gangland while posing as dangerous criminals. The premise turns the trio’s improv skills into a practical liability as well as a tool: maintaining a convincing cover means responding in character when events go off script.
Tribeca’s 2025 festival synopsis frames their assignment as targeting petty criminals before one of them goes off book and the group becomes caught in an escalating London gang war. Its description highlights how the improv principle “yes and…” complicates their effort to keep their identities intact.

Supporting cast and character names
The named supporting roles below come from Apple TV’s cast listing. The available listings establish these actor-character pairings, but do not provide enough detail to describe each character’s role in the story.
