Progressive hints for Connections #711
These are publication-authored hints, not official NYT clues. Stop after any line if you want to keep solving:

A second set of short nudges from TechRadar was: “One more thing…,” “It’s not easy being…,” “As seen in the capital,” and “Presenters of puzzles.”

#1 Best Overall
Yellow: Fine print
ASTERISK, CATCH, CONDITION, STRINGS
Green: Characters with green skin
ELPHABA, GRINCH, HULK, SHREK
Blue: Features of the National Mall in D.C.
CAPITOL, MALL, OBELISK, POOL
Purple: Famous riddle-givers
BRIDGE TROLL, MAD HATTER, RIDDLER, SPHINX
Why the categories can be easy to mix up
The green category is specifically about characters with green skin, not simply characters associated with the color green. TechRadar’s solve commentary notes that the RIDDLER can look tempting beside the green characters because of his green suit, but he belongs with the riddle-givers.
Likewise, SPHINX may seem plausible among the National Mall entries, but the blue group is the four listed features of the National Mall in Washington, D.C.; SPHINX completes the purple group.

How Connections works
Connections asks players to select four items that share a category and submit the group. TechRadar describes four difficulty colors and up to four mistakes; Try Hard Guides describes the daily puzzle as resetting at midnight local time. Those are the guides’ descriptions, not a fresh verification of current NYT access or game rules. TechRadar says the puzzle can be played through NYT Games on desktop or mobile.
