Need a nudge before seeing the solution? These are the 16 words in NYT Connections game #611 for Tuesday, February 11, 2025, followed by hints that grow more direct. The full categories and groups are below a spoiler warning.

The 16 words on today’s board

MAD, MAN, HUB, BUB, NIGHT, MAT, BUD, TUG, JACK, WRENCH, BLOCK, JERK, STRAP, KNEE, YANK, BOLSTER.

Hints, from gentle to clearer

  1. Look for four words that can describe forceful pulling or twisting.
  2. Another group consists of informal ways to address someone.
  3. Think of items used to support or equip a yoga practice.
  4. For the last group, put each word before the same three-letter word for a lid or cover.

Spoilers: the categories and answers

Warning: The category labels and all four solved groups appear below.

Category Words Connection
WREST JERK, TUG, WRENCH, YANK Each can mean to pull or twist forcefully.
BUSTER BUB, BUD, JACK, MAN Informal forms of address.
YOGA ACCESSORIES BLOCK, BOLSTER, MAT, STRAP Props used for yoga.
_____ CAP HUB, KNEE, MAD, NIGHT Each completes a familiar compound when followed by “cap”: hubcap, kneecap, madcap, and nightcap.

How the last connection works

The four words all precede “cap,” but the resulting compounds are written differently: hubcap, kneecap, madcap, and nightcap. That spelling variation is why the category is shown as a blank followed by CAP.
