Ticketmaster’s removal of some Ontario resale listings and notice that customers could relist them after marketplace updates were reported on April 24, 2026; “next week” was the timing in that historical report, not an upcoming change.
How Ontario’s resale cap works
Bill 97 amended Ontario’s Ticket Sales Act, 2017 to limit resale prices for tickets to live events. A person may not offer a ticket for secondary sale above the total price paid when it was purchased from the primary seller, and a platform may not facilitate a sale above that limit. The legal reference is the original total price, with the statute’s treatment of applicable fees, service charges and taxes—not just the ticket’s advertised base price.
Ontario’s consumer guide says a resale ticket may be sold at the original total price or less. The original total includes the base ticket price, fees and service charges. Applicable taxes and a resale platform’s standard service fees may also affect what the buyer pays. A listing at the cap is therefore not necessarily the same as a listing at the ticket’s “face value,” nor does the cap mean every buyer’s final checkout total will be identical.
What sellers and resale platforms must do
The law requires disclosure of both the original ticket price and the resale price, itemization of applicable secondary-sale costs, and proof of the original price to the platform before it facilitates a listing. Platforms also have record-preparation and retention obligations under the Act.

- 1. Double-sided display: This ticket stub holder is made of transparent acrylic material and has a size of 4x9 inches. The larger size can accommodate more types of tickets and clearly display the tickets inside. Whether it is a play ticket, a concert ticket or a ball game ticket, the details of the ticket can be seen at a glance. The transparent design is not only beautiful and generous, but also adds a unique sense of art, making your precious ticket a beautiful landscape in your home or office space.
- 2. Stable base: The ticket stub display has a 4.5×2×0.5-inch transparent acrylic base with two card slots for straight and oblique insertion. The base design is stable to ensure that the ticket holder will not easily tip over during the display process. Whether it is placed on a desktop, windowsill or display stand, it can steadily carry the ticket stubs, allowing the ticket stubs to be displayed steadily in the position you want, avoiding damage to the ticket stubs due to accidental collisions.
- 3. Protect the ticket stubs: The four corners of the ticket stub frame are magnetically attached. When using it, there is no need to borrow external tools. The ticket stubs can be directly inserted and opened and closed by magnetic attraction. This design is not only easy to operate, but also ensures that the ticket holder fits tightly when closed and will not be accidentally opened due to external force. At the same time, the strong magnetic attraction will not cause any damage to the ticket stubs, and can effectively protect the integrity of the ticket stubs, so that your precious ticket stubs are always in good preservation.
- 4. Smooth edges: The ticket stub organizer adopts a rounded edge design with smooth edges, Not easy to deform and break, which avoids the possible damage to the hands caused by sharp corners when using or touching the ticket stub holder display stand. The rounded corner design improves the comfort during use, allowing you to easily and efficiently protect and organize your ticket collection.
When comparing listings for the same event, check the seat or location, original total price, resale price, and separately shown fees, service charges and taxes. Event availability and platform policies can vary; a compliant listing does not guarantee that a ticket is available or represents good value.
Why Ticketmaster removed some Ontario resale listings
The Canadian Press reported on April 24, 2026, that Ticketmaster had removed some resale tickets in Ontario. The company’s spokesperson, Shabnum Durrani, said customers were being notified and would be able to relist tickets the following week after marketplace updates. The report also said Ticketmaster told sellers that listings for events that weekend needed to comply with the law. It did not establish when the platform completed its update.

Ontario said increased administrative penalties took effect June 10, 2026. Under the government’s announcement, repeat business offenders can face administrative penalties of up to $25,000, compared with the previous maximum of $10,000. The release describes compliance orders and court charges as separate enforcement tools, and says enforcement actions will be published on the Consumer Beware List.

The government presented the cap as a consumer-protection measure against inflated resale prices. In the April 2026 Canadian Press report, SeatGeek warned that the measure could reduce access to high-demand events and make season-ticket ownership more expensive for some resellers. Experts cited in the report also raised concerns about enforcement if primary sellers do not disclose original seat prices and about informal resale channels. Those are stakeholder and expert concerns, not established outcomes. The sources cited here provide no verified estimate of the cap’s effect on ticket prices, resale volume or attendance.
