Bernard returns in The Santa Clauses and explains what he did after leaving the North Pole: he gave up eternal youth for love and married Vanessa Redgrave. The story reveals this in season 1, episode 5, “Chapter Five: Across the Yule-verse.”
What happened to Bernard?
After his earlier appearances as the head elf, Bernard left his post and gave up eternal youth for love. In The Santa Clauses, actor David Krumholtz’s character says he married Vanessa Redgrave. It is a fictional joke in the show, not a claim about the real Redgrave’s personal life. Krumholtz later told TIME that he laughed when he read the line: “I have no idea, but I didn’t question it.”
Which episode brings Bernard back?
Bernard returns in season 1, episode 5, titled “Chapter Five: Across the Yule-verse.” Disney’s episode listing identifies the installment as Episode 105 and includes Krumholtz in the cast. The episode uses Bernard’s return to help Scott understand the Santa role and its history, taking him through the Yule-verse.
