Today’s Strands theme and progressive hints
Start with the clue, then reveal only as much as you need.
- Theme clue: “That’s proprietary!”
- Direct hint: Think brand names.
- First two letters: The five theme words begin VE, JA, KL, PO, and CH. The spangram begins TR.
- Spangram placement: TRADEMARKED has 11 letters. TechRadar places it across the board, touching the left side at row five and the right side at row six; Parade describes it as mostly horizontal. TechRadar’s June 2, 2025 guide and Parade’s June 3 guide provide those clues.
How the Strands hint system works
Parade’s summary of the New York Times rules says, “Find theme words to fill the board.” You can drag letters or tap them to form a word; when tapping, double-tap the final letter to submit. Theme words highlight in blue, and they fill the board without overlapping. The spangram describes the theme, connects two opposite sides of the board, and highlights in yellow when found.
Finding three non-theme words earns a hint. The hint reveals the letters of a theme word; if a hint is already active on the board, it reveals their order instead. These gameplay details are summarized in Parade’s guide.
