The Friday, August 8, 2025, NYT Mini answers are BUN, CHEESE, BURGER, SHROUD and TPS across, and BEGOT, USE UP, NERDS, CBS, HUH and ERR down. One published answer list gives 7-Across as “BURGERS”; two give “BURGER.”

7A. Offering at a summer cookout BURGER
8A. To surround and conceal / Envelop and obscure SHROUD
9A. Reports that bring pain in Office Space / Covers a tree in bathroom rolls, in a classic prank TPS

Down answers

1D. Gave rise to or produced / Brought about BEGOT
2D. To completely exhaust / Fully deplete USE UP (grid fill: USEUP)
3D. Colorful, pebble-shaped candy by Willy Wonka’s brand / Jocks’ counterparts, stereotypically NERDS
4D. “Survivor” network CBS
5D. Palindromic utterance of puzzlement / “What’d you say?” HUH
6D. To err / Make a mistake ERR

Why 7-Across appears as BURGER or BURGERS

Forbes and Analytics Insight list the cookout offering as BURGER, while Parade prints BURGERS. The singular is the stronger-supported answer in those reports, and it fits the reported stack theme with BUN and CHEESE. The New York Times archive grid was not directly checked, so the discrepancy is worth noting rather than presenting the conflicting listing as settled.
