What is The Lost Bus about?
Apple’s synopsis follows a school bus driver and a teacher who try to save 22 children from a wildfire. Matthew McConaughey plays driver Kevin McKay, and America Ferrera plays teacher Mary Ludwig, according to Apple’s U.S. title listing.
The film is inspired by real events and based on Lizzie Johnson’s book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire. Greengrass and Brad Ingelsby wrote the screenplay. Johnson is an executive producer.
Is The Lost Bus based on a true story?
It is inspired by the Camp Fire evacuation in Paradise, California, but it is a dramatization rather than a documentary record. The Associated Press reports that on November 8, 2018, a bus driver was sent to pick up 22 elementary school students as the fire spread. AP reports that 85 people died in the Camp Fire. The film’s dramatic choices should not be treated as independent evidence of precisely how the real events unfolded.
Who stars in the film?
The lead cast is Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera. Apple also named Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson and Spencer Watson among the additional cast. The production credits list Greengrass and Ingelsby as writers, with Ingelsby, Gregory Goodman, Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions, and Jamie Lee Curtis for Comet Pictures as producers.
