How to approach Connections #477
Connections asks you to sort a grid of 16 words into four groups of four that share a hidden link. Try identifying a possible theme before submitting a set: words can connect through meaning, category, or wordplay, and a tempting overlap may lead to a wrong grouping. Try Hard Guides says players select four words and submit a guess, with up to four mistakes allowed. WordHint says the daily puzzle resets at midnight local time.
Hints, from yellow to purple
- Yellow: These are ways to prepare food using hot water or steam.
- Green: Each can be used as a fragrance ingredient.
- Blue: These fictional characters are associated with pet dogs.
- Purple: Say each word aloud and think of capital cities that sound like it.

Why the purple group is a wordplay clue
The purple set is not about the words’ usual meanings. Each is a homophone of a capital city: Keto/Porto, Roam/Rome, Sophia/Sofia, and Soul/Seoul. The sound-alike link is the shared thread.
