Try each clue before revealing the category names or word groups.

  1. A set of words for moving suddenly or unsteadily.
  2. Think of a grammatical word type that can name something or someone.
  3. These are styles you might hear associated with nightclubs.
  4. Each word in this group follows a three-letter word for the residue left by a fire.

Category names

Spoilers below: The category names and complete answers follow.

  • CAREEN
  • WHAT A NOUN MIGHT BE
  • ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC GENRES
  • WORDS AFTER “ASH”

Full answers for November 24, 2024

Category Words
CAREEN HEAVE, LURCH, PITCH, REEL
WHAT A NOUN MIGHT BE IDEA, PERSON, PLACE, THING
ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC GENRES AMBIENT, HOUSE, JUNGLE, TRANCE
WORDS AFTER “ASH” BLOND, TRAY, TREE, WEDNESDAY

Why the groups can be tricky

Some words have plausible alternate associations: PITCH and REEL can suggest other meanings, while HOUSE may look like an ordinary noun rather than a music genre. For the last group, add “ash” before each answer: ash blond, ash tray, ash tree, and Ash Wednesday.

How Connections works

Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups of four. The groups are commonly indicated by colors, from yellow for more straightforward connections to purple for trickier ones, and players may make up to four mistakes, according to a dated game guide. This is general game context, not a clue to a different day’s board.
