Need a nudge before the answers? The June 28, 2024 Connections puzzle groups its 16 words around bags, wiggle room, a signal to proceed, and underwear. Hints come first below; stop before the answer key if you want to solve it yourself.

Progressive hints for June 28

  • Yellow: Think of things that carry or hold personal items.
  • Green: A phrase for leeway or room to maneuver.
  • Blue: A cue, prompt, or sign that tells someone to go ahead.
  • Purple: Lower-body garments, expressed in singular form.

The June 28 word bank

The reported 16 words are CLUTCH, MESSENGER, SATCHEL, TOTE, FREEDOM, LATITUDE, LICENSE, SLACK, CUE, PROMPT, SIGNAL, WORD, BOXER, BRIEF, DRAWER, and SHORT. Their groupings are revealed below.

Answers for game No. 383

Color Category Words
Yellow TYPES OF BAGS CLUTCH, MESSENGER, SATCHEL, TOTE
Green WIGGLE ROOM FREEDOM, LATITUDE, LICENSE, SLACK
Blue INDICATION TO PROCEED CUE, PROMPT, SIGNAL, WORD
Purple UNDERWEAR IN THE SINGULAR BOXER, BRIEF, DRAWER, SHORT

Why the word bank can mislead

MESSENGER, SIGNAL, and SLACK may suggest a messaging-app theme at first glance, but they belong to three different groups here: bags, an indication to proceed, and wiggle room. That apparent connection is a possible red herring, not one of the puzzle’s categories.

A useful check before submitting a tempting set is whether all four words fit one precise meaning. Once the bag terms are separated, consider how the remaining words function in the phrases “wiggle room” and “indication to proceed,” then look at the grammatical form of the clothing terms.

Why sources disagree about the puzzle number

The requested No. 383 matches TechRadar’s date-specific guide for Friday, June 28, 2024, which gives this word bank and solution set: TechRadar’s June 28 guide. WordFinder lists the same June 28 words and categories but labels that puzzle No. 384, assigning No. 383 to June 27: WordFinder’s Connections archive. Third-party archives therefore differ on numbering; the date-matched answers agree across those two listings.

Playing Connections and accessing its archive

The New York Times Help Center says Connections asks players to divide 16 words into four color-coded groups of four, with words that can appear to fit more than one category. It is free to play through the Games app, NYTimes.com, The Athletic, and the News app, with the daily puzzle released at midnight in the player’s timezone. The Help Center says its archive goes back to June 12, 2023 and is available to All Access and Games Subscribers; a NYT account is needed for archive progress and history, and completed archived puzzles cannot be replayed. See the NYT Help Center’s Connections information for current details.
