Hints for Connections #414

Use the clues in order, stopping when you have enough to solve the board.

  1. A place you might go to see a big event.
  2. Something you might see on an address.
  3. Each is associated with a word that can mean different things.
  4. Each has a particular feature in common.

Spoiler warning: answers below

The categories and word assignments for the July 29, 2024 puzzle are corroborated by Parade, TechRadar, and Try Hard Guides.

STADIUMS

ARENA, BOWL, COLISEUM, DOME

STREET SUFFIXES

ALLEY, COURT, DRIVE, LANE

ASSOCIATED WITH SCALES

FISH, JUSTICE, LIBRA, SOLFEGE

THINGS WITH SPOUTS

FOUNTAIN, GUTTER, TEAPOT, WHALE

Why the board can mislead

Some words invite plausible but incomplete combinations. ALLEY, LANE, and GUTTER may suggest bowling, while JUSTICE, COURT, and LIBRA may suggest law. Those are decoys: the intended categories are the four-word groups above, as TechRadar also notes.
