Titus Welliver was reported for a potential lead role in a CBS spinoff of The Equalizer, but the project was not moving forward at CBS as of TV Insider’s April 22, 2025 update. The role was never a confirmed series-regular job: it depended on CBS ordering the spinoff. Meanwhile, Bosch: Legacy ended in April 2025, but Welliver continued as Harry Bosch in the franchise through guest appearances in Ballard.
What role did Titus Welliver lose?
On January 17, 2025, TV Insider reported that Welliver and Juani Feliz had reportedly been cast in lead roles for a potential Equalizer spinoff. They were expected to appear in Season 5, Episode 16 of CBS’s The Equalizer, with the possibility of becoming series regulars only if CBS ordered the spinoff. TV Insider updated its report on April 22 to say the project was not moving forward at CBS; at that point, it was also unknown whether Welliver and Feliz would appear in additional episodes of The Equalizer Season 5. That distinction matters: the report concerned a prospective role tied to a possible series, not a confirmed job on an ordered show. Calling it a lost series-regular role overstates what had been announced.

Did Bosch: Legacy ending mean Harry Bosch was gone?
No. Bosch: Legacy concluded with its third-season finale on April 17, 2025, but Harry Bosch’s story continued in the wider franchise. Connelly’s official page identifies Season 3 as the final season and says all 10 episodes were available on Prime Video at the time of its 2025 update. The original Bosch ran for seven seasons, followed by three seasons of Bosch: Legacy. Michael Connelly’s official franchise update.

The finale introduced Maggie Q as Renée Ballard, setting up the Ballard series. Welliver returned as Bosch there, but the reported contribution was a few episodes or cameos—not a regular role. That is a continuation of the character, not a replacement for the canceled potential Equalizer job.
What the finale drew on
Connelly’s official page names Desert Star (2022) and The Black Ice (1993) as books that informed Season 3 story material. The finale also resolved a long-running case involving the murders of three young women, according to TV Insider’s report on the ending. TV Insider’s finale coverage.

Connelly credited Welliver’s performance with shaping the screen character, writing: “None of this would have happened without the first name on the call sheet: Titus Welliver. He became the full embodiment of Harry Bosch and that was the magic that fueled 10 seasons.” For fans interested in the Season 3 source material, Desert Star is one of the novels Connelly identifies as informing the season.
