The series is Absentia, a psychological crime thriller about FBI agent Emily Byrne, who vanishes while pursuing a serial killer and is found alive six years later with amnesia. Tom’s Guide reported on November 20, 2025, that the show had reached No. 3 in the U.S. Netflix Top 10 after its reported November 14 arrival. That is a dated chart placement, not a current ranking.
What is Absentia about?
Emily Byrne (Stana Katic) disappears while hunting a notorious serial killer and is presumed dead. Six years later, she is found alive in a remote cabin, unable to remember what happened. By the time she returns home, her husband has remarried and her son has grown up without her.

The series follows Emily’s attempt to rebuild her identity and reconnect with her family as she becomes entangled in new murders and suspicion. It combines a personal story about trauma and disrupted family ties with a continuing criminal mystery, without revealing the answers to either.
As the story develops, the investigations reach beyond Emily’s immediate circumstances. Sony’s season-three synopsis places her on the final days of an FBI suspension, trying to be a good mother to Flynn while a case involving Nick puts her family at risk and leads toward a conspiracy in Europe.

How many seasons and episodes are there?
Absentia ran for three seasons, with 30 episodes in total, according to Tom’s Guide. The regional Prime Video page lists ten episodes for season three.
The show began in 2017. Tom’s Guide reports that its story was planned for three seasons; a fourth was considered, but the team did not find a continuation that felt true to the story. Season three wraps key storylines while leaving some possibilities open. No season-four order or current revival announcement is established by the cited sources.

Why did Absentia reach Netflix’s Top 10?
Tom’s Guide reported that Netflix began streaming all 30 episodes on November 14, 2025, and that the series stood at No. 3 in the U.S. Netflix Top 10 in its November 20 article. The report makes this a notable historical chart result, not evidence that Absentia remains in the Top 10 now. The article’s chart claim is a secondary publication’s report, not an independently verified Netflix audience measurement.
Is Absentia worth watching?
It may suit viewers looking for a serialized crime thriller in which the central mystery is bound up with the lead character’s family and identity. Three seasons and 30 episodes make it a substantial commitment rather than a short standalone watch.

Rank #3
Expect a familiar procedural approach alongside the personal drama. Tom’s Guide reproduces this Rotten Tomatoes consensus: “Absentia sticks too closely to the procedural handbook, leaving its capable lead and mildly intriguing mystery treading water.” That is a critical summary, not a named reviewer’s quotation.

Availability depends on territory and can change. Tom’s Guide reported the Netflix U.S. arrival in November 2025, but that report does not establish where the show is available today in every country. Amazon announced the series for Prime Video in the United States and selected international markets in 2017; a regional Prime Video catalog page now labels it unavailable in that particular region. Neither historical distribution information nor one regional catalog result confirms access everywhere.
