Thode Door Thode Paas is a warm, five-episode Hindi family drama about a household trying to reconnect without its usual technology. Its digital-detox premise creates room for analogue-era nostalgia and quieter family moments, though the series does not always dig deeply into the harder realities of digital dependence.
What is Thode Door Thode Paas about?
Retired naval officer Ashwin Mehta challenges his gadget-immersed family to give up technology for six months. Each family member who completes the challenge stands to receive ₹1 crore. That reward and timeline are fictional story details, not a real-world detox plan.
The central family includes Ashwin, Kunal, Simran, Avni and Vivaan. Kunal’s brother Kumud lives next door, adding another family connection to the story. The show uses the challenge to test how the household behaves when screens and devices are no longer the easy default.
Does the digital-detox premise make a good family drama?
The strongest appeal is the way the premise brings the family into shared time and conversation. Udita Jhunjhunwala’s Scroll review describes an intimate, thoughtful story of rediscovered presence and bonds. Pankaj Kapur gives the series a steady centre, with quiet gravitas and wry humour.

The analogue nostalgia is most tangible in the official episode-three synopsis, where Ashwin brings in a VCR for a family movie night. It is a story detail that makes the household’s adjustment visible, rather than a recommendation to buy or use a particular device.
There is a limit to how far the show explores its central idea. Scroll finds that it sometimes skims over the deeper challenges of digital dependence, and calls the third episode filler. The result is more effective as a warm family story than as a searching examination of technology’s hold on daily life. India Today’s review likewise describes it as warm and thought-provoking, focused on familial love, laughter and conversation.
