“Sonic 4: Velocity Vortex” is an unverified title rumor, not a confirmed SEGA announcement. A February 18, 2026 article from GeekChamp names it as the leading possibility and also mentions “Sonic 4: Recharged” and “Sonic 4: Genesis Reborn.” The article describes a possible video game, not a fourth Sonic film, but its proposed title and project details remain speculation.
What is the rumored Sonic 4 title?
GeekChamp’s February 18, 2026 article presents “Sonic 4: Velocity Vortex” as the most talked-about possibility, while listing “Sonic 4: Recharged” and “Sonic 4: Genesis Reborn” as alternatives. It attributes the names to unverified leaks and speculation; it does not establish that SEGA chose any of them.
The subtitles might suggest different creative directions, but that is interpretation, not reported confirmation: “Velocity Vortex” evokes speed, “Recharged” a refreshed take, and “Genesis Reborn” a nod toward the series’ earlier era. None of those implications proves what a game would contain.
Is Sonic 4 officially announced?
The official SEGA pages consulted for Sonic Superstars and Sonic Origins do not corroborate the rumored Sonic 4 project or any of its proposed titles. Those pages document actual releases: Superstars is described as a side-scrolling Sonic game with character and co-op features, while Origins collects four remastered games. They are franchise context, not evidence for this rumor.

- Sonic The Hedgehog Sonic 3 Movie 5" Action Figures: Sonic With Emerald Wave #3
SEGA’s social feed reproduces a February 10, 2021 post from the Sonic the Hedgehog account stating, “Presenting the official title of the #SonicMovie sequel: Sonic the Hedgehog 2!” That announcement concerned the film sequel, not a game. It illustrates the difference between an explicit title announcement and a rumor, but says nothing about the alleged Sonic 4 game.
What does the rumor say the game might be?
GeekChamp imagines a game revival or reimagining that could return to 2D platforming, alter the physics, or add time- or dimension-related mechanics. It also speculates about additional playable characters, pixel-art or 2.5D visuals, and multiplayer possibilities. These are ideas in the article, not confirmed features or a reliable description of a project in development.

Who might develop it, and when could it come out?
The article speculates about Sonic Team and Christian Whitehead, but supplies no verifiable announcement establishing either as involved. Its proposed late-2024 or 2025 timing is already past relative to the article’s February 2026 publication date, so it should not be treated as a current release window. No confirmed developer, platform, or release date is established by the cited material.
