On May 8, 2022, India Today reported that a Google search result for Amber Heard’s IMDb listing displayed the nickname “Amber Turd.” But the report said the linked IMDb page itself showed her name correctly as Amber Heard. It did not identify who altered the search-result display, and there is no evidence in that account that Johnny Depp fans were responsible.
What appeared in the search result
India Today’s report, published during the Depp–Heard defamation trial, said the nickname appeared in Google’s IMDb result on desktop and mobile. Clicking through led to an IMDb page displaying “Amber Heard,” not the nickname. The distinction matters: the report described a Google search-result display, not a confirmed change to Heard’s name on IMDb.
The report did not establish who was behind the display. Its headline asked whether Depp fans were responsible, but that was speculation, not a finding. The account connected the nickname to Johnny Depp’s testimony about finding faeces on a bed after an argument; that context does not independently verify the underlying allegation.
What IMDb’s name policy says
IMDb’s general rule is to list people under their “most recently and/or frequently credited stage or professional name.” It defines a credited name by the precise name shown onscreen when a film or television title is first released. IMDb’s guidance is available in How do I change my name?

For a correction, IMDb directs contributors to the page’s Edit Page control and asks them to explain the requested change. Its general help article says one week is the best-case processing time for name changes; many take longer, and submissions may be rejected if they do not meet IMDb’s criteria. That guidance does not reveal whether anyone submitted a correction in this incident or how quickly a Google result changed.
IMDb also says it does not remove accurate information and that users can submit errors or omissions for review through Edit Page. This describes the site’s general process, not evidence that it received or approved a particular request about the 2022 result. The current IMDb search result identifies the listing as Amber Heard. However, direct access to the page encountered an IMDb bot-verification screen, so its full live contents could not be independently inspected. The available evidence therefore supports neither a verified correction date nor a claim about who caused the 2022 search-result display. The contemporaneous account is India Today’s May 8, 2022 report.
