The 2005 holiday comedy-drama The Family Stone brought Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Claire Danes and an ensemble cast together for a Christmas visit that turns into a family reckoning. A December 2025 career snapshot highlights later work by several cast members; in September 2026, Searchlight announced a sequel with ten original cast members returning. No release date was given.

Diane Keaton
Diane Keaton, who played Sybil Stone, died in October 2025 at age 79, according to ABC News. Her place in the film is part of its original ensemble; the sequel announcement does not say that she appears in the new film.
What is known about the sequel?
On September 12, 2026, Searchlight announced The Families Stone, naming ten returning members of the original cast: Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel McAdams, Claire Danes, Dermot Mulroney, Craig T. Nelson, Luke Wilson, Tyrone Giordano, Elizabeth Reaser, Paul Schneider and Brian J. White. The announcement describes a Christmas reunion 20 years after Sybil’s death, with Kelly bringing home a woman he has fallen in love with. This is the announced premise, not confirmation that Keaton appears.
ABC News’s report of the announcement gives no release date; “Coming Soon” is not a dated release schedule. See ABC News for the announcement details.
