Spoilers for all five episodes of The Wolf Among Us. The finale strongly hints that Faith and Nerissa may have used glamours to appear as one another, but it never confirms who Bigby met at the beginning—or who he speaks with at the end. Telltale described the ending as deliberately open to interpretation. The two leading readings reverse the possible identity swap; a more elaborate Bloody Mary theory has far less support.
What Bigby realizes in the final scene
After confronting the Crooked Man, Bigby speaks with Nerissa. She tells him, “You’re not as bad as everyone says you are”—the same line Faith used at the end of her conversation with him in the opening episode. The echo makes Bigby revisit what he remembers and suspect that the woman he knew as Faith and the woman he knows as Nerissa are connected.

The game then lets you choose whether to follow Nerissa or let her go. It does not show what Bigby finds, identify the woman, or confirm what happened. The repeated line and the possibility of glamours are clues the story puts in front of the player; the precise identity swap and its timeline are interpretations.
The two leading identity theories
Both theories use glamours—magic that lets Fables change their appearance—to explain the apparent connection. They disagree about who wore one and when. These are interpretive tests, not questions the game definitively answers.

| Question | Faith is Nerissa at the end | Nerissa was Faith at the beginning |
|---|---|---|
| Who was the opening “Faith”? | Faith, as she appeared to Bigby. | Nerissa under a glamour. |
| Who does Bigby meet at the end? | Faith, disguised as Nerissa. | Nerissa, the same woman who appeared as Faith at the start. |
| What must have happened off-screen? | Nerissa died in the opening sequence, and her body appeared to be Faith’s because it was glamoured. | Faith was already dead when the story began; Nerissa used her appearance to prompt Bigby to investigate. |
| How does the repeated line fit? | It signals a connection, but the theory must explain why Faith would use Nerissa’s identity and repeat her own earlier words. | Nerissa’s repetition reveals that she was present at both encounters, making the echo more direct. |
1. The final “Nerissa” is Faith
In this reading, Faith survives the opening events and later wears a glamour to look like Nerissa. Nerissa must have died during the opening sequence, with her body made to look like Faith’s. Supporters point to the body examination and the Magic Mirror’s inability to locate Faith, but neither clue proves this chain of events; there are other possible explanations for the doctor’s tests. Faith’s Donkeyskin story, in which disguise is a means of escape, gives the theory thematic weight without confirming it.
2. The opening “Faith” is Nerissa
Here, Faith was dead before the game began, and Nerissa appeared as her in the opening encounter so Bigby would take the apparent murder seriously and investigate. At the end, the repeated line lets Nerissa signal that she was also the person he met at the start. GamesBeat argues this makes the echo more straightforward: Nerissa has less apparent reason to reveal a hidden identity if she is actually Faith trying to disappear. That is a narrative argument, not proof of canon.

What about the Bloody Mary theory?
GamesBeat also points to a forum theory involving Bloody Mary, but characterizes it as receiving little support. Treat it as fringe community speculation, not as a rival to the two main explanations. A much more elaborate Telltale forum post proposes that Faith and Nerissa masterminded the plot; those claims, too, are player theories rather than confirmed story facts.

In an interview published August 23, 2017, PCGamesN quoted Job Stauffer, then Telltale’s head of creative communications, calling it “an ambiguous ending that’s left open to interpretation.” He said the noir form leaves what happened “largely in the eyes of the player to decide.” Stauffer also explained why the game does not immediately spell out an answer: “we don’t think continuing on with ‘ok, here’s what happened’ after you went after this person, or after you took a drag of your cigarette and walk away… I mean, wow, that’s an ending, let’s leave that as something to talk about.”

GamesBeat reported on July 24, 2014, that it contacted Telltale for clarification and received none. Stauffer’s later comments provide the clearest framing: the uncertainty is intentional, not a puzzle the studio supplied a definitive solution for. He also said the planned second season would focus on Bigby and Snow White rather than continue this identity thread, so it should not be treated as a promised resolution.
How to revisit the clues
If you want to weigh the readings for yourself, pay attention to the opening encounter, the body examination, the Magic Mirror, Faith’s Donkeyskin story, and the final repeated line. Ask which woman each theory says died, who was glamoured in the opening, who Bigby meets at the end, and how many unseen events it needs to assume. The game leaves those questions for interpretation rather than resolving them in a final scene.
Telltale’s official game page describes the story as based on Bill Willingham’s Fables comics and lists access to all five episodes. Telltale’s official remaster page lists The Wolf Among Us Remastered for PC and consoles with an October 29, 2026 release date. As of October 8, 2026, that stated date is still in the future; check the page for current release and platform availability.
