This is a historical Netflix US guide, not a statement of what is streaming now. The September 2024 roundup confirms Star Trek Beyond as one pick, but its full five-film list is not available in the contemporaneous excerpt, so the missing titles cannot be reliably named. One separately documented arrival was Edge of Tomorrow, listed for Netflix US on September 7, 2024. Check your own Netflix catalog before choosing: availability varies by country and date.

Edge of Tomorrow
Edge of Tomorrow, directed by Doug Liman and starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, was listed as a Netflix US arrival for September 7, 2024. This is a dated US catalog report, not evidence that the film is available in another region or remains on Netflix today. See the September arrivals report.
The Divergent films
A separate August 29, 2024 report said the Divergent movies were scheduled to leave Netflix US during September. It does not establish a single departure date for every film; consult the report for its title-level details rather than treating the trilogy as leaving all at once. Check the September departures report.

How to choose a sci-fi film by mood
For discovery, it helps to start with the kind of experience you want rather than an unsupported ranking. Netflix Tudum’s June 11, 2026 sci-fi guide organizes films across several broad moods. It is a later recommendation guide, not a record of what Netflix carried in September 2024.
- Time-bending or psychological: look for stories built around time travel, altered perception, or a thriller’s uncertainty.
- Space adventure or survival: choose this lane for exploration, danger, and the challenge of staying alive beyond familiar surroundings.
- Satire or comedy: sci-fi can use speculative settings to make room for humor and social commentary.
- Action: prioritize fast-moving conflict and spectacle if that is what you want from the genre.
- Family viewing: check the film’s rating and synopsis against the ages and preferences of the people watching.
Netflix Tudum’s sci-fi guide includes runtimes, ratings, release years, and synopses for its recommendations, and notes that recommendation counts can vary by region. Those details can help with selection, but they do not verify a September 2024 listing.

How to verify a title in your Netflix region
- Open Netflix in the country where you plan to watch and search for the exact film title.
- Confirm that the title page offers playback, rather than relying on an old arrival or departure list.
- Check the film’s rating, synopsis, and runtime on its title page to make sure it suits your viewing plans.
- If a title is missing, treat that as a catalog difference—not proof that it was never available elsewhere or at another time.
The dated reports above document Netflix US catalog changes in September 2024 only. They cannot establish current availability in the United States or elsewhere.
