A March 9, 2024 roundup named three films as Netflix thriller picks: High-Rise, the editor’s pick; The ’Burbs; and Redemption, also known as Hummingbird. They suit different moods, from dystopian satire to suburban comedy and a darker revenge drama. The list reflects that dated article, not a current Netflix catalog check; availability can vary by region and over time. Read the March 2024 roundup.
Three Netflix thriller picks from March 2024
The March 2024 article’s selections are best compared by tone and premise, rather than treated as a definitive ranking. Here is what distinguishes each film in its account:
| Film | How the roundup describes it | Best fit if you want |
|---|---|---|
| High-Rise (2015) | Ben Wheatley’s dystopian thriller and satire; the roundup’s editor’s pick. | Class conflict, social satire, and escalating violence in an enclosed setting. |
| The ’Burbs | Joe Dante’s comedic thriller. | Neighborly suspicion that turns into suburban paranoia, with a horror-comedy tone. |
| Redemption / Hummingbird | Steven Knight’s dark revenge-and-redemption drama. | A grimmer story, with themes of sexual violence. |
Which one should you watch?
Choose High-Rise for dystopian class satire
Directed by Ben Wheatley, the 2015 film stars Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, and Sienna Miller; the roundup also discusses Luke Evans. Its high-rise setting becomes the arena for class conflict and mounting violence. The film is based on J. G. Ballard’s 1975 novel, a natural companion for viewers interested in the story’s source material.
Choose The ’Burbs for comic neighborhood paranoia
In the roundup’s description, a disgruntled homeowner grows suspicious after a mysterious family moves next door. The film stars Tom Hanks, Bruce Dern, and Carrie Fisher. The article attributes this shorthand for its comic menace to screenwriter Dana Olsen: “Ozzie and Harriet meet Charles Manson.”

#1 Best Overall
Choose Redemption or Hummingbird for darker drama
The roundup uses both titles for Steven Knight’s film, starring Jason Statham, Agata Buzek, and Benedict Wong. Its revenge-and-redemption premise is the darkest of these three recommendations; the article specifically flags themes of sexual violence.

The March 9, 2024 roundup presents these films as Netflix picks for that month, but it does not establish availability in every country, throughout the entire month, or today. Netflix catalogs change and vary by region, so check your local Netflix listing before planning a watch.
