The finale never explains who she is or what happened to her: Anna finds her apparently dead, a flight attendant says there was no passenger beside Anna, and a compact mirror is left behind as a final clue.
What happens to the woman in seat 2A?
After the main story, Anna boards a flight to New York. In the airplane sequence, she discovers a woman who appears to be dead in the lavatory. Anna reports what she saw, but when the flight attendant checks, there is no body. The attendant also says nobody was seated beside Anna.
When Anna returns to her seat, she finds a compact mirror. That object complicates the attendant’s account, but the episode does not explain how it got there or settle what happened. Netflix’s episode-eight synopsis identifies Anna’s flight as part of the finale; the scene’s contradictory clues do not resolve the passenger’s identity or fate.
Is the woman real, or is Anna hallucinating?
The finale leaves that question open. Anna’s encounter and the flight attendant’s denial support conflicting readings, while the compact mirror suggests there is more to the scene than a straightforward dismissal. The episode does not establish that Anna hallucinated, that the attendant is hiding something, or that any other explanation is true. Those are interpretations, not answers supplied by the show.

What did the creators say about the ending?
In a January 31, 2022 interview with TVLine, co-creator Hugh Davidson said the scene was intended to excite viewers and suggest the start of a possible next story. He described the ending as a humorous tease, inspired by books that include a preview of an author’s next work, and said the creators had spent about two days developing a possible plot. His comments explain the purpose of the tag; they do not identify the woman or solve the mystery.
How does the seat 2A mystery relate to the main case?
The airplane scene is separate from the central murder plot. The main case is resolved when Emma is revealed as the killer; the passenger’s identity and apparent death remain unexplained. The series is a dark comedy that satirizes psychological thrillers, and its finale uses the unexplained airplane encounter as a playful hook rather than a confirmed continuation.
