Spring 2025 is over, but its anime lineup still offers a varied watchlist: a continuing historical mystery, fantasy comedy, superhero action, a game adaptation and original science fiction. These five picks are a curated starting point, not an objective ranking. Streaming dates and catalogs cited below are historical and territory-specific, so check what is available where you live.
Five Spring 2025 anime to put on your watchlist
The season ranged from returning series and adaptations to original stories. These selections favor variety of premise and audience appeal; the available sources do not establish a shared review score or season-wide ranking.

The Apothecary Diaries Season 2
A continuation for viewers already following the courtly mystery and Maomao’s story. The Escapist’s March 27, 2025 guide included the season among its recommendations and listed Crunchyroll for Season 2, while its listing for Season 1 pointed to Netflix. That is a historical guide, not a guarantee of present-day access: check the catalog in your territory before starting.
To Be Hero X
This is the pick for a superhero story built around public opinion: Netflix Japan describes a world where hero rankings shift with people’s trust. The series is a Bilibili and Aniplex co-produced original, according to Netflix’s Japan announcement. The premise makes it a distinctive alternative to a familiar superhero adaptation, while the announcement’s Japan-specific scope means it does not establish availability elsewhere.

#1 Best Overall
Witch Watch
A fantasy comedy about a high-school boy with ogre powers who becomes the familiar of his childhood friend, a trainee witch. The Escapist recommended it, and Netflix Japan included it in its spring schedule. It suits viewers looking for a lighter magical premise rather than a season-long action showcase.
Devil May Cry
Netflix’s anime adapts Capcom’s game franchise, centering on Dante, a half-demon hunter. It is a natural choice for action fans and viewers curious about how a video-game property translates to animation. Netflix Japan listed an exclusive start date of April 3, 2025; that date is a historical schedule detail, not a current availability claim. The anime also offers a route into the source franchise: if you want to try a game, check the specific title, platform compatibility and edition before buying.
Rank #2
Moonrise
For original science fiction, Netflix Japan describes a conflict between Earth and an impoverished Moon. The announcement credits WIT STUDIO with production and Hiromu Arakawa with character designs. Netflix Japan listed April 10, 2025 as its start date. Those credits and the premise offer a useful way to assess whether it fits your interests, but neither confirms availability in other regions today.
Other Spring 2025 anime to consider
Lazarus
Netflix Japan’s announcement describes a new series directed by Shinichiro Watanabe and produced by MAPPA. Its premise follows a team seeking a vaccine after a widely used painkiller is revealed to have a delayed lethal effect. Consider it if that high-stakes science-fiction setup and action-oriented premise appeal to you.

More titles across the season
The spring schedule was broader than these picks. Netflix Japan’s announcement also included returning properties such as Fire Force and Wind Breaker, along with Yaiba, Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray and other titles. Crunchyroll’s March 19, 2025 lineup announcement, updated April 2, added titles including Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 2, Apocalypse Hotel, Kowloon Generic Romance, Maebashi Witches and SHIROHIYO. These announcements document lineups at the time; they do not settle what either service currently carries in your country.
How to choose what to watch
- Want a continuing story? Start with The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 if you have already watched Season 1.
- Prefer comedy or fantasy? Witch Watch foregrounds a magical friendship and familiar setup.
- Looking for action? Devil May Cry draws on a game franchise; To Be Hero X approaches heroism through changing public trust.
- In the mood for science fiction? Compare Moonrise’s Earth–Moon conflict with Lazarus’s search for a vaccine.
- Need a streaming option? Treat the cited platform notes as historical clues, then search your local service catalog. The Escapist’s guide listed Netflix and Crunchyroll releases in 2025; Netflix’s schedule cited here is explicitly for Japan.
Sources and availability notes
The Escapist’s Spring 2025 recommendations guide was published March 27, 2025 and gives a historical schedule and recommendations, including The Apothecary Diaries Season 2, To Be Hero X, Witch Watch and Devil May Cry. Netflix’s announcement of its Spring 2025 anime lineup in Japan, dated April 3, 2025, provides the premises, credits and Japan schedule details referenced above. Crunchyroll’s Spring 2025 lineup announcement was published March 19 and updated April 2, 2025. None should be treated as a current, worldwide catalog lookup.
