The Samoan wrestling family tree is centered on the Anoaʻi family, with a wider kinship connection to Peter Maivia and his grandson Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Roman Reigns is the son of Sika; Jimmy and Jey Uso are Rikishi’s twin sons. The Maivia–Anoaʻi connection is a culturally recognized blood-brother bond, not a claim that the two families descend biologically from the same parents.
The family tree at a glance
This simplified map shows the main relationships relevant to the wrestling dynasty. The line between Peter Maivia and Amituanaʻi Anoaʻi represents family kinship through a blood-brother bond—not biological siblinghood.
- Amituanaʻi Anoaʻi
- Afa — brother of Sika; sons include Samu, Afa Jr. (Manu) and Lloyd Anoaʻi, according to USA Network’s family-tree account.
- Sika — brother of Afa; sons include Matt Anoaʻi (Rosey) and Roman Reigns (Leati Joseph Anoaʻi).
- Rikishi (Solofa Fatu) — father of twins Jimmy and Jey Uso.
- Peter Maivia — connected to the Anoaʻi family through the blood-brother bond with Amituanaʻi; his daughter Ata married Rocky Johnson, and their son is Dwayne Johnson, known as The Rock.
These are selected branches, not an exhaustive family tree. The sources establish the relationships above; they do not make every Samoan wrestler part of this family.
How Afa and Sika form the Anoaʻi trunk
Afa and Sika were brothers known as the Wild Samoans. WWE’s historical profile says Afa trained Sika and that they formed a tag team. Their branch is the clearest route to understanding Roman Reigns: WWE identifies Roman as Sika’s son, while USA Network also names Sika’s sons Matt Anoaʻi, known in wrestling as Rosey, and Roman.

Afa’s branch includes his sons Samu, Afa Jr. (also known as Manu), and Lloyd Anoaʻi, as listed by USA Network. This makes Samu and Roman members of different branches of the same extended Anoaʻi family; the family tree is more informative than treating the surname or a TV faction as proof of a specific relationship.
Why Roman Reigns and The Usos are called cousins
Roman Reigns is Sika’s son. Jimmy and Jey Uso are the twin sons of Rikishi (Solofa Fatu), according to USA Network and WWE’s Jey Uso biography. The sources describe them within the extended Samoan wrestling family, and WWE’s Jey Uso profile calls Roman Jey’s cousin in its wrestling-bio framing.

The straightforward documented parent-child links are Roman to Sika and the Usos to Rikishi. “Cousin” is a useful description of their extended family relationship, but the biographies cited here do not lay out a complete chain of every parent and grandparent connecting Roman to Jimmy and Jey. The Bloodline name or a storyline alliance should not be used as a substitute for that genealogy.
How The Rock is connected—and what “blood brother” means
Peter Maivia’s daughter Ata married Rocky Johnson; their son is Dwayne Johnson, The Rock. USA Network notes that Peter adopted Lia Maivia’s daughter Ata, and WWE’s Peter Maivia profile describes his bond with the Anoaʻi family. The key bridge is Peter Maivia’s blood-brother bond with Reverend Amituanaʻi Anoaʻi.

That bond places the Maivia and Anoaʻi families within a recognized kinship relationship, but it does not mean Peter and Amituanaʻi were biological brothers or that The Rock is a biological cousin of Roman Reigns. Calling them family is appropriate when the cultural bond is made clear; presenting it as shared biological descent is not.
Real family relationships versus The Bloodline storyline
The Bloodline is a WWE faction and story that draws on real family connections and dramatizes them for television. Real-world parentage—such as Sika being Roman’s father and Rikishi being Jimmy and Jey’s father—can be stated separately from on-screen alliances, rivalries, and faction membership. Those story developments change; family relationships do not.

WWE biographies and USA Network’s family-tree explainer are useful for the named relationships, while the cultural context matters too. Foundations and Futures describes the Anoaʻi–Maivia connection through a blood oath and discusses how wrestlers use cultural markers as tribute and education. It also addresses Lia Maivia’s role as a promoter in building the dynasty’s platform. The result is a family story that includes biological descent, culturally recognized kinship, and a public wrestling legacy—but those categories are not interchangeable.
