The Trial: Pyaar Kaanoon Dhokha season 2 has enough plot to keep its lawyer-turned-politician world in motion, but its courtroom cases, political maneuvering and troubled marriage do not always add up to a compelling whole. Kajol anchors the show, and the ensemble brings energy; whether the season works for you depends on how much you value brisk melodrama over convincing legal tension and emotional depth.
What is The Trial season 2 about?
The Hindi legal and political drama follows lawyer Noyonika Sengupta (Kajol) as she continues working at her law firm while navigating an uneasy marriage to Rajiv (Jisshu Sengupta). The couple try to maintain a truce for their daughters, but their conflicts persist as Rajiv pursues a political career.
The season adds pressure on several fronts: Karanvir Sharma joins as Param, a new partner at the firm, while Rajiv’s ambitions bring him into conflict with law minister Narayani (Sonali Kulkarni). Client cases run alongside workplace tensions involving Malini and Vishal. The series is directed by Umesh Bist and adapts the American drama The Good Wife, which aired on CBS from 2009 to 2016. The credited and discussed cast also includes Alyy Khan, Sheeba Chaddha, Kubbra Sait and Asrani.
Does the drama come together?
Deepa Gahlot’s Scroll.in review argues that the season has plenty happening but struggles to join its strands into a satisfying dramatic arc. Noyonika’s legal work, the firm’s shifting power dynamics, Rajiv’s political maneuvering and the couple’s strained relationship compete for attention rather than consistently building on one another.

The cases illustrate the problem for Gahlot. They include a masseuse, Twinkle, accusing a philanthropist of rape; a dispute involving an allegedly greedy builder and a corrupt system; and a conflict involving influencers. Gahlot finds some of the case logic difficult to believe and says the courtroom battles do not deliver enough tension to balance the political and romantic plots. Her assessment is a critic’s judgment, not a claim that every viewer will respond the same way.
Her central reservation is captured in this line: “Despite Kajol’s efforts – and she really sparkles when required to be fiery – the second season doesn’t quite blend the thrill of a hard-fought court battle with the intrigue of politics and the heartbreak of thwarted love.”

What do the performances and pacing offer?
Kajol remains the main attraction, particularly in fiery scenes, and Gahlot singles out Sonali Kulkarni and Asrani as scene-stealers. Shubhra Gupta’s review for The Indian Express also gives Kajol a strong focal role and finds some of the show’s best moments away from the courtroom. Gupta rated the season 2/5, underscoring that these strengths did not make the overall experience work for her.
Abhishek Srivastava’s Moneycontrol review is more positive. He describes a brisk follow-up with an effective ensemble and socially relevant cases, while noting that the pace can leave emotional developments underdeveloped. Taken together, the reviews point to a useful distinction: the season can be lively and performer-led without giving every plotline enough room to land.

Is The Trial season 2 worth watching?
It is a better fit for viewers who enjoy character melodrama, workplace power struggles and a fast-moving ensemble story. If you are looking for carefully built courtroom procedure, consistently plausible case logic or sustained legal suspense, the reviews suggest you may be disappointed. The season’s main appeal is its mix of relationships and politics, not a dependable run of gripping trials.
The reviews do not agree on every strength: Moneycontrol is more approving of the momentum and cases, while Scroll.in and The Indian Express emphasize weaknesses in the drama’s construction and courtroom material. That makes this less a simple verdict on whether season 2 is “good” than a choice about what you want from a legal drama.
