“Jimmy Carter 100: A Celebration in Song” brought a broad lineup of performers to Atlanta’s Fox Theatre on September 17, 2024, ahead of Carter’s 100th birthday on October 1. Hosted by the Carter Center, the concert celebrated Carter’s Georgia roots and love of music while raising support for the Center’s peace and health work.
When and where the Jimmy Carter 100 concert took place
The concert was held at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre on September 17, 2024, beginning at 7:30 p.m. EDT. Carter’s 100th birthday was October 1, 2024, so the Fox Theatre event was a celebration held beforehand—not on his birthday.
The Carter Center hosted the event, presented with Delta Air Lines and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Original tickets were $100 before taxes and fees, with proceeds benefiting the Center’s work; that was the price for this past event, not a current ticket offer. The Carter Center’s announcement described the concert and its purpose.
Who performed at the celebration?
The announced lineup brought together musicians from pop, rock, gospel, country, jazz, hip-hop and classical traditions. The Carter Center’s announcement named Chuck Leavell, D-Nice, Drive-By Truckers, Eric Church, GROUPLOVE, Maren Morris, The War and Treaty, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chamber Chorus, Angélique Kidjo, BeBe Winans, Carlene Carter, Duane Betts, India Arie, Lalah Hathaway and the B-52s. Renée Zellweger was announced as a special guest. Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) also listed the Rickey Minor Band and Spelman College Glee Club. The Carter Center lineup announcement and GPB’s broadcast announcement provide the published rosters.

Why music was central to the tribute
The concert’s musical focus reflected Carter’s longstanding affection for music and its place in his political life. During his 1976 presidential campaign, acts including the Allman Brothers supported him with concerts. Chuck Leavell, the former Allman Brothers and Rolling Stones keyboardist, recalled the connection in the Carter Center’s August 1, 2024 announcement: “Back when Jimmy Carter was running for president, the Allman Brothers played concerts for his campaign because we believed in his vision for hope and change for America. We could never have imagined what a positive impact he would have on the entire world.” The announcement tied that history to the celebration’s wide-ranging lineup.
Allman Brothers songs and a Georgia finale
At the concert, Leavell performed Allman Brothers songs with Carlene Carter, Duane Betts and Eric Church. GPB’s account names “Midnight Rider,” “Ramblin’ Man,” “Blue Sky” and “Jessica,” as well as “Will the Circle Be Unbroken.” The Carter Center’s recap records the finale: “Georgia on my Mind,” with members of the Carter family joining the performers onstage. GPB’s concert report and the Carter Center’s recap describe the performances.
